Good Afternoon Findley Families,

The Dragon Dash last week was a huge success. Many thanks to our Dragon Dash Committee and all of the volunteers and spectators. You helped make our event this year fabulous. Also, thank you so much for your generosity in donations. We have met and exceeded our fundraising goal.

I am happy to announce our Student Success Team, Mrs. Gotfried and Mrs. Hargrave, will be rolling out our first information session in our new series, Parent Partnerships. This is a new series of opportunities for parents designed for you to learn more about supporting your student’s success in school, and out. Our first workshop in the series is scheduled for October 29 from 8:30-9:30 AM. Please do read more about it in this newsletter and RSVP to attend.

As a reminder, the District is looking for your input on the Student Success Act. The link to the needs assessment is embedded in issue.

Lastly, we will be participating in the district-wide Shake Out Event this Monday, October 14 at 10:14 AM. At that time we will conduct an Earthquake Drill followed immediately by an Evacuation Drill. You can help us by preparing your child(ren) for this important event.

Strategies for Success: Zones of Regulation

We are excited and pleased to introduce our first Parent Partnership information session of the 2019-2020 school year. We will share information on the Zones of Regulation curriculum and how it helps all students recognize and manage their emotions throughout the day.

Message from our Nurse

We will be having vision screenings for students November 4th, 2019 at school. Please notify the office in writing if you want your child to opt out of the screening.

Hearing Screening will be Nov. 19 Kindy - Second Grade only. Please notify the office in writing if you want your child to opt out of the screening.

Speak Up 4 Student Success: HB 3427 - Student Success Act

The Oregon Legislature passed and the Governor signed the $2 billion Student Success Act (HB 3427) in Spring 2019. This is an historic and much needed investment in K-12 schools. The Beaverton School District could be able to access an estimated $34 million per year through a state application process.

School districts are required to apply for funds, and must engage their community in a needs assessment process prior to the application for funds. We will host a series of Community Conversations - Speak Up 4 Student Success in several locations throughout the BSD. Schools will also be engaging their communities in these conversations during September and October.

Please join us to talk about what student success looks like in the Beaverton School District? What is going well in Beaverton schools? What areas/services/programs could we improve?

Dragon Dash 2019 – THANK YOU!!!

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone that volunteered and to those who came to cheer on their child(ren) for Dragon Dash! We appreciate all of you taking time out of your day to support our school and students.

This event is always a big under taking. Because of your dedication, hard work, and overwhelming support, Findley's Dragon Dash was a success!

As of this week we've successfully shattered our fundraising goal by 10%! Donations closed on Thursday 10/10 and the final numbers will be tallied and prizes finalized. Student awards will be announced at the Award Assembly on Friday, October 25th. Prizes will be coming home with students that afternoon.

Save the Date!!! Findley Fall Festival – October 25th

Happy fall y’all! Findley students & adults are encouraged to wear costumes to the Findley Fall Festival on Friday, Oct. 25th from 5:00-8:00 pm (please, no costumes during regular school hours). It’s all good fun so please leave your truly scary costumes and toy weapons at home (light sabers, ninja swords, etc.).

Thanks to the PTO and your Dragon Dash donations, this event is FREE for the whole family. There will be a DJ playing music on the stage & kids can do the hokey pokey, limbo, YMCA & more! The library will have fall books to read & crafts. There will be a candy corn contest and Elite Dance Studio will give a performance.

5th graders & families will be serving up: cheese pizza, bottled water, popcorn, donuts, and candy to earn money for 5th grade activities & a service project. Cash only & come hungry! Be THERE or BEWARE!

Join the Findley Directory Drawing Contest Committee

Interested in seeing our students’ creative drawings? Join the Findley Directory Drawing Contest Committee! We are looking for volunteers to review entries and select the top drawings to be printed in the directory. Help is also needed with prize distribution and decorating the display case to announce the top drawings. Most of the help needed will be in Oct-early November.
