Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
The passing of the referendum made it an extra happy week at Lions Park, and I personally also felt very proud to be a resident of District 57. Our staff feels extremely grateful for the support and confidence demonstrated by the voters. During my relatively short time at Lions Park, I have quickly grown to appreciate the engaged students, supportive parents, dedicated staff and collaborative administrative team. It is obvious that the voters saw what I see every day and wanted to ensure that this continues to be a dynamic place for students to learn.
The week of April 2nd is Disability Awareness Week in District 57. The theme, which is printed on the t-shirts is "In District 57, we all fit together”. This week was organized by our special education teacher, Katianne Olson. All classes will be decorating a puzzle piece on Monday that will be included as part of a schoolwide puzzle display. Each day, classrooms will do some sort of grade level appropriate learning activity focused on a different disability. These activities may include books, discussions, games or videos. On Friday, we will have a spirit day. If you didn’t purchase a shirt, your child is welcome to wear blue as that’s the Autism color! The focus for each day is listed below. We look forward to teaching our children to embrace differences.
Monday-Learning Disability
Tuesday- Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Wednesday- Intellectual Disabilities
Thursday- Speech and Language Disabilities with a highlight on Rett Syndrome
Friday- Autism
I hope all of your children have a fun spring break, whether you are traveling or staying at home. There are just as many wonderful ways to make memories with your children in this area as there are on vacation. Encourage them to take advantage of the break by exploring their interests and reading books they enjoy.
Warmly,
Katie Kelly
Principal
Lions Park School
