Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 20th March 2020
School Closure and COVID 19
School Closure
Dear Parents and Carers
It is a truly unprecedented situation at school and across the country and I know everyone is increasingly challenged by the coronavirus pandemic. I would like to thank you for your understanding, support and patience as we have worked through the daily updates and changes from the DFE and government.
The school only recently received guidance regarding care provision that it is being asked to provide and today we have endeavoured to collate information from our recent survey and communicate with relevant eligible families by email. If you believe that you are eligible and have not received an email or text do speak to myself or Mrs Rich.
As a school we have struggled to maintain staffing up to this point and I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere thanks to all the staff in the school and the additional teachers that we have employed. They have really been positive and hugely supportive, ensuring that we can provide teaching and learning provision in all classes.
Due to the limited staffing that we have in school we do ask that our care provision is only utilised where it is essential and absolutely necessary. Government guidance is very clear that wherever it is possible for children to be at home they should be. Please do help the school by looking at working patterns and flexibility so that children are not in school.
If you are not working, have a partner at home not working (or can work from home) or are not included in the critical workers list, your child should not be in school and you should make arrangements. We all need to ensure that we do our part to prevent the spread of this disease.
There are some key guidance points that we all need to follow to ensure the country is able to reduce the spread of the virus:
1. If at all possible keep children at home
2. Parents should not rely for childcare upon those who are advised to be in the stringent social distancing category such as grandparents, friends, or family members with underlying conditions
3. Parents should do everything that they can so children do not mix socially in a way that can cause the virus to spread – employing the same social distancing principles as adults
Whatever happens in the next few weeks and months, we are in this together and we will all work our hardest to do our best.
Thank you for your on-going support and from everyone at Ripon Cathedral School we send on our best wishes, be safe, be kind and do look after one another.
Kind regards
Steven Holmes
Home Learning
To support learning at home, teachers in every year group will email out a weekly plan of suggested activities. These will also be posted on the school website under the Home Learning tab each Friday for the following academic week. Any school updates will also be posted on the school site and emailed to families as appropriate.
Please do keep in contact with your child/children’s class teacher via email.
Oscar's
Please note as from next week, OSCAR's provision will only be available to children with parents who are critical workers.
The advertised OSCAR's Easter Club will not be running as the government expect that care provision will continue through the Easter break. Mrs Rich will work on cancelling bookings and issuing refunds or credit notes as soon as she is able.
Many thanks for your understanding.
Dates for your diary......
Monday 23rd March - School closure - open for care provision
MESSAGE FROM THE FRIENDS
Hello All!
We hope everyone is doing well and is prepared for the next few weeks.
In book bags came home the egg decorating competition templates. Obviously we won't be in school for the normal egg decorating competition but we still wanted the children to take part in the competition somehow. So please decorate the templates with anything you wish, The theme is HISTORIC ICONS, can be a historic event or person/people. Once you have done it please either scan them in or take a picture and email them to pinkeggdesigns@gmail.com by Monday 30th March. The Friends and Mr Holmes will go through them and decide the winners. Everyone who enters will still receive a treat.
Also whilst the school is closed we plan to post daily things on to the friends Facebook page. We will be posting daily activities, jokes, educational things and other fun bits for you to try at home! So if you are on Facebook and you haven't already please find us: @RiponCathedralPrimarySchoolParentsandFriends
