Where We Are Proud To Be SHARKS
April 16, 2021
No School April 19-23
Dear CES Families:
It is with much consideration and reflection that I write this letter to inform you that last night, I verbally accepted a position as Director of Curriculum, Teaching, and Instruction at Nauset Public Schools. I will begin this new position on July 1, 2021. This decision was not easy. Chatham is my “home.” I went to high school here, my husband and I were married here, and we had our first child here. This staff has become my family, and your family my purpose. However, I also know that for my career, and in my role as an educational leader, this is the right move for me personally and professionally.
I have cherished every minute of my 7 years here at Monomoy. I arrived as the assistant principal at Harwich Elementary in 2014 to find a newly regionalized district; one that was working out its identity, its mission, and its vision. Since transitioning to the role of principal at Chatham Elementary School in 2015, I have been so very lucky to work with amazing community members, dedicated educators, and exceptional students. It has been wonderful to watch this district finds its “voice,” and to be with a learning community where students are at the center of the work. I will always be proud to be a SHARK, and I am confident you are all in very good hands with our CES faculty and staff.
Over the next couple of months, I will continue to be devoted and committed to the work at CES and Monomoy. We have exciting opportunities ahead of us, and hope that you will, along with me, support and be involved in the many upcoming discussions and action steps that will continue to move our school and district forward. There is our "all community” dialogue and investigation of deep learning with Dr. Jal Mehta on April 28th. Our early discussions of “What is the best configuration for our elementary schools?” on May 6th. And perhaps most importantly, we will be celebrating all of our students’ learning successes this year, and taking action to develop ways in which we can best move forward after a very difficult, yet community-building year.
Lastly, once all paperwork is finalized, the district will be seeking members for the search committee to place CES’ next principal. I hope that you will all take an active role in this process.
As always, I am here if you have any questions, reflections, or thoughts. Enjoy your spring break with your families.
Sincerely,
Robin
Renowned author and education expert Dr. Jal Mehta to virtually visit Chatham Elementary School community
April 14, 2021 -- As part of its work with deeper learning, Chatham Elementary School educators, in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Education’s Kaleidoscope Deeper Learning Collective and New Pedagogies for Deep Learning Global Partnership, have been studying and implementing a variety of tools and strategies to encourage deep, long-lasting learning by students. Chatham Elementary School and Monomoy Regional School District have been collaborating with local organizations to offer a community read focused on education, and the guiding question, “What would it take to transform schools into modern organizations capable of supporting deep learning for all?” Educators, parents and caregivers, and community members participated in book discussions based on In Search of Deeper Learning: The Quest to Remake the American High School by Dr. Jal Mehta and Sarah Fine.
On April 28, 2021, at 6:30 p.m., Dr. Mehta will join the community for an in-depth and interactive discussion of his book, In Search of Deeper Learning. This event is open to the public and attendees do not need to have participated in the book discussion groups to participate in this event. Join the Zoom here: http://bit.ly/CESMehta2021.
