The Arrival of Lent
Bruin Press February 25, 2020 Edition
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for your support of this year’s Gala, "A Night Under the Stars." It was a magical evening and a time of celebration for our school community. You could feel the family atmosphere and this speaks volumes about our school.
The success of this event was possible due to the extraordinary generosity of our parent volunteers as well as our corporate sponsors and donors. Parents, thank you for your donations of time, creativity, and gifts. They were invaluable to our success.
Auctions have an incredible amount of “moving parts” to oversee (venue, food & beverage, decorations, invitations, set-up, item collection, seating charts…). A special thank you to Maree Sutton, our Gala Chair, on an outstanding job. Her energy and enthusiasm were critical to the success of this important event.
Each year St. Bernard continues to advance its mission of academic excellence in a faith-based nurturing environment. Through programs such as STEM and Maker Space, we have seen firsthand the positive impact on our students’ growth in science, technology, engineering, and math. With the help of your donations, students will continue to see improvements in STEM as we build our new outdoor learning lab and garden. A school garden is a powerful environmental education tool and will allow our students the opportunity to get outside of the classroom and experience the world in a hands on way. If you would like to contribute to this fund, there is still time. We have $2,350 in the fund and welcome additional support. Look for more information in the coming months for opportunities to help construct the raised garden beds. We just need a little warmer weather to get started!
As you may know, funds raised at this year’s Gala will directly support educational programs, maintain campus operations, and provide tuition assistance for families. Thank you for your generosity in bridging the gap and being a partner in your child’s education. Your commitment to strengthening our community is sincerely appreciated.
In Christ,
Laurie Senecal

Gala Follow-Up
The gala was such a wonderful community event! We couldn't have done this without everyone's help so "Thank you SBS for all your support!"
A special thanks to DJ Corona (James Coronado) for creating the beautiful "A Night Under the Stars" atmosphere and Erica Munoz for the balloon entrance and table decor! Also, a HUGE thanks to Kelli and Dan Scott for swooping in on Saturday to help set up the silent auction and wine/restaurant pulls (and keeping our Gala Chair sane :)! And thanks to our friends at St. Patrick School for all their assistance in making this event run smoothly!
It’s not too late to contribute to the SBS STEM Enrichment Garden and/or the GAP fund! We have a matching contribution for $1,500 for the STEM fund and so far we only have $850 raised. We would like to at raise a minimum of $1,500 so SBS will receive the full matching funds. Go to https://one.bidpal.net/sbsgala2020/browse/donation to donate TODAY!
Late addition Friday that many people might have missed. Father Gaston is holding a dinner for 10 people. As of today, there are still 6 spots open for this dinner. Go to https://one.bidpal.net/sbsgala2020/browse/fixedPrice to purchase your ticket. There are also 2 spots remaining for the “Kentucky Derby Party” hosted by Mike and Anna Clark. WHAT'S BRUIN
A Lenten Challenge
We invite you to journey with us this Lenten Season. As SBS we hope to focus on these specific areas during Lent so that we might grow closer to Our Lord and become who it is that we are called to be in this special season.
STOP something that keeps you from growing closer to God- could be an unhealthy habit, wasting time on social media, unkind words or actions, letting something inside our soul that is not good, true or honorable.
FEED your soul! (Prayer, Read the bible more, renew your commitment to go to Mass, attend the sacraments more frequently, commit to listen to a reflection video)
DO an Act of LOVE in your actions- Love is to desire the good for another - to think of the needs of others before ourselves. Commit to do something selfless this Lenten Season.
