Middle School Moments
October 15, 2019
From the Desk of Mrs. McCoy
Last year we spent our chapel time helping them discover their identity in Christ so that when they are faced with things in life, they do not waver because they turn to HIM. Many of our students embraced that while others are still seeking.
This year we are spending that time in Ephesians helping them know how to "walk the walk you talk." As we study it all year, we are praying that God will use it to help all of us be authentic Christians so the world will be drawn to the Jesus inside of us.
A trend is developing this year that concerns me. Middle School has chapel from 2:05 - 3:05 on Wednesday and we look forward to it all day long. When students are checked out they often miss something really special or when they are asked to leave early, a whole section of students are distracted while we look for the student who is leaving.
When possible, please make every effort to make appointments at another time and refrain from taking them early. Should you find yourself in a situation that is unavoidable, come get them prior to chapel starting at 2:05. This will allow other students to remain focused.
Thank you for your help.

PERFECT ATTENDANCE
Nurses Corner
We have recently seen a big cluster of influenza A in our city. Flu is ramping up early and fierce this year. Here are some tips on how to avoid the flu:
- Get your flu shot
- Wash your hands (a lot!)
- Avoid close contact with those that are sick
- Respiratory etiquette (cover your coughs, sneeze into tissue and immediately throw tissue away, and sneeze into elbow not hands)
If your child gets the flu, he/she must be 24 hours fever free (without fever reducing medicine) and symptoms free in order to return to school. If child is fever free but still does not feel well, he/she still needs to stay at home.

We are thrilled to have our first annual Food Allergy Awareness Day on Monday, October 28th. In the U.S., 1 in 13 kids has a food allergy. At our academy, 35% of our students have an allergy; 3% of our students have a life-threatening allergy. Thus, it is ever so important we raise awareness. As students arrive on campus on the 28th, they will notice teal balloons at each entrance. In addition, each student will receive a teal wristband to wear throughout the day to help raise awareness of food allergies and anaphylaxis. During HawkTalk, students will be learning more about food allergies and watching myself demonstrate how to properly administer an EpiPen and AuviQ. We are excited to help make the world a safer place for those with allergies by raising awareness!
