INVENT - COMPETE - WIN
To celebrate our 10th Year at BETT and the launch of several new Innovative additions to Loxit’s iPad Storage and Management range, Loxit will be launching our Innovation Day competition at BETT 2013.
A team from Loxit will spend the day at the winning school working with pupils either individually or in teams on a project-based competition which is mapped to the national curriculum, aiming to familiarise pupils with the UK manufacturing Industry.
The Innovation Day is a one day event where pupils are divided either individually or into teams and asked to work together – if in teams they delegate roles covering various aspects such as marketing, product design and research. Pupils are given a project design brief which is current and engaging. Pupils will then work through the various stages to design and make outcomes to meet the design brief. During the day pupils will have input from Loxit’s Product Designers and experts from the industry. This is an invaluable resource for the pupils and an insight for them into the world of work. Once the pupils have produced their outcome they have an opportunity to peer assess and vote for the most successful outcome with the winning Pupils being invited to the Loxit production facility to see their product made first hand, meet the team and see their product showcased on the Loxit website.
The project asks pupils to research and design a tablet mount or security product and present their design ideas in the form of a presentation at the end of the day. Pupils will develop product and marketing design proposals, researching the production processes involved, and understanding the environmental issues in the metal Industry. It encourages pupils to draw upon their creative talent and utilise novel ideas and techniques to design a product that they think would be suitable to address challenges faced by individuals and businesses when looking after tablet devices.
The day will start with Loxit highlighting key elements to consider and providing free, quality learning materials, including information sheets and presentations as well as employer-developed resources. The project is designed to help reinforce part of the specifications for GCSE Design and Technology Resistant Materials, and also covering Research, design principles and Intellectual Property.
