Bristow Run ES Panther Press
May 2022
Dear Panther Families,
As we prepare to end the year, I want to make sure to thank our Panther Families for your support and dedication this year. This was a challenging year returning after a full year of interrupted learning due to the pandemic. We started the year with many restrictions, but fortunately ended the year with class picnics, field trips, recess with all classes, and a promotion ceremony for our 5th graders! It’s so exciting to have some “normal” activities to look forward to as we end the year.
I am excited to share that this summer our building will start a full renovation project that will last 15 months! Our building will be closed this summer as contractors work to update our front entrance, office spaces, preschool and kindergarten classrooms. We will also be adding an auxiliary gym out back by the kindergarten wing. We will continue to work on our new learning garden space outside the library. Parents can still reach us over the summer by calling the Bristow Run number (703-753-7741). Please continue to check our school webpage for updates! Class supply lists and dates for Open House in August will be posted soon.
I would like to thank the Bristow Run school community for all the kind emails, cards, and recognition this past week as I was recognized as Principal of the Year for PWCS. I am so thankful to work with the best students, staff, and parent community. Thank you for trusting me with your most valuable treasure – your child! I promise to always give them my best!
With Heartfelt Thanks,
Mrs. Jeck
Student Placement for 2022-23 School Year
As we are closing out this year, we are also planning for the 2022-23 school year. With all the planning, we have to consider student placement for next year. I value and appreciate parent feedback on the type of learning environment in which you feel your child may learn best. Specific teacher requests are not part of the form on purpose, but we do like to match up the characteristics of a teacher with what you believe your child needs. The form will be open until Friday, June 3. Thank you in advance for your input.
Click below purple button below to access the form.

If are not planning on having your student return next year please go to your Parent Vue account at the end of the year and complete the Withdrawal form. Thank you!
Kindergarten Registration is OPEN!
Kindergarten online registration for the 2022-23 school year, and is followed up with an in-person registration appointment.
Parents whose students are currently enrolled in any PWCS preschool program (preschool or special education) do not need to complete the online kindergarten registration process. Instead, they should contact the registrar for the school where their student will attend for kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year.
If you have any questions about kindergarten registration, don't hesitate to get in touch with Bristow Run's registrar, Susie Pierce. PierceSC@pwcs.edu

Garden Update
This has been a very exciting month for our school garden! The wood for our giant chalkboard wall is up and will soon be painted with chalkboard paint. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, two of three of our garden beds are filled with perennial plants such as Coneflowers, Peonies, Baptisia, and more. Perennials are a type of plant that come back every year. We can't wait to see these flowers bloom. Our future garden plans include a beautiful mural, a rock river, mulching paths to walk through the garden, and more planting. Stay tuned for our next garden workday!
Watch D.O.G.S. Dad's of Great Students!
Let’s Bring WATCH D.O.G.S Back in 2022-23!
Are you interested in being the “Top Dog” at BRES? The Top Dog will work directly with the administration to relaunch our Watch DOG program! Curious what the program does? It works by encouraging fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day all day at their child’s/student’s school during the school year. Fathers and father figures sign up to volunteer through a ‘Launch Event’ this September! WatchDOG dads and volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students as needed.
What are the goals of a WATCH D.O.G.S. program?
1) To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2) To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
If interested in the Top DOG position, please contact Mrs. Jeck via email at jeckrc@pwcs.edu
