Tiger Tales from Sanborn School
Week of December 20th, 2021
Dear Sanborn Families,
The November Golden Paw winners were Mrs. Gannon's second grade class, and Ms. Musgrove's fifth grade class. They demonstrated our tiger traits of being respectful, responsible, and safe as an entire class. They were able to earn a fun game of BINGO last Monday, December 13th. We will be reviewing our whole-school expectations after Winter Break in each classroom and through our whole-school station rotations. Please talk with your child about how they are being respecful, responsible, and safe while at school.
Last Thursday, December 16th, Sanborn held the Spelling Bee for students in grades four-six. The classroom winners were: Evan, Abikhail, Tori, Ryan, Adrian, Anvi, Alexa, Emiliano, and Eric. After a competitive end of the Bee, Emiliano was named the winner and Evan was named the runner-up! Congratulations to all of our Sanborn Spellers and we look forward to the District Bee on February 1st! Thank you to Ms. Musgrove and her team for coordinating a successful school bee!
We are looking forward to our school sing this Wednesday, December 22nd, led by Mrs. Datcher! This will be a virtual sing around the school and will help us to provide a joyful start to winter break! On behalf of the entire Sanborn staff, we wish you and your family a wonderful and joyous holiday season. We hope that you are able to safely spend time with family, rest, relax, and rejuvenate for the start of 2022! We look forward to seeing your children back in class on January 10th!
Warmly,
Kate Arenberg, Principal

If your student is in need of any winter gear, such as hats, gloves, a coat, snow pants or boots, please send an email to Monica Chovanec, school psychologist, at chovanem@ccsd15.net and we will work to fulfill the need here at Sanborn. We are also accepting donations of winter gear that your students are no longer using; any donation can be dropped off at the Sanborn office.

Cold Weather Guidelines
Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
Please make sure your child is bringing the appropriate winter gear to school to stay warm. If you need support, please let the office know.
