Keeping Up with Colden
Sharing Best Wishes for 2024
From the Principal's Desk
Happy New Year, Colden families! I hope this message finds you well and that you had a joyful holiday season surrounded by loved ones. As we begin a new year, I would like to extend a warm welcome back to all our students and families. We missed the laughter, energy, and enthusiasm that each child brings to our school community, and we are excited to dive into the adventures that lie ahead.
Here are a few important updates and reminders as we start the new year:
New Beginnings:
We see the start of a new year as an opportunity for new beginnings. Our school is always coming up with new ideas to engage students! I am looking forward to the new opportunities and challenges of 2024! A goal for this new year is to improve student attendance.
Upcoming Events:
Keep an eye out for announcements regarding upcoming events and activities. Last month, our PTA and teachers planned holiday shopping, STEAM Night, and a Holiday Carnival. Your involvement and support are crucial to the success of these events, so please mark your calendars and join us if you can!
Stay Informed:
Our school website and social media pages will continue to be valuable resources for keeping up-to-date with school news, events, and all other important information. Please take a moment to review these platforms regularly, to stay informed about what's happening in and around our school.
Safety First:
The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. As we return from the holiday recess, we will continue to implement and reinforce safety measures to ensure a secure learning environment for everyone. In spring, we will finish practicing our last set of lock down and fire drills.
We value open communication with parents. If you ever have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher or contact the main office. We are here to support you and will always work together to ensure the success and well-being of each student.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year filled with growth, learning, and memorable experiences. Thank you for your continued partnership and support in making Colden Elementary School a wonderful place for our students to learn.
Wishing you a prosperous and joyful New Year!

What Are Your Resolutions in 2024?
Smart Cookies!
Colden students who best demonstrated the character trait of accepting others had the opportunity to create some tasty treats. These exemplary students got to try their hand at frosting and decorating cutout cookies. Much fun was had by all, and the staff nominees (Mr. Chris Buczek and Mr. Jared Hauri) joining in on the fun were the sprinkles on top of this wonderful event!
Partnering with PTA
December was another busy month for our Colden Elementary PTA!
From December 13th through 15th, several incredible parent volunteers set up and ran the annual Merry Moose Shop. This event gives students an opportunity to buy holiday gifts for their loved ones while working on their money management skills. Volunteers help the children work within their budgets to find the perfect presents for everyone on their lists.
Then, on Wednesday, December 20th, the PTA hosted STEAM night. Students participated in a range of hands-on learning activities, such as bottle rocket launching, slime making, boat building, bead coding, paper plane flying, and so much more. This truly spectacular event would not have been possible without the time, energy, and supplies donated by our parents and staff. We look forward to more events like this in the future!
Looking to the new year, our next meeting is Wednesday, January 10th on Zoom (meeting id: 238 445 7202, passcode CES). We will be voting on our updated bylaws, which requires a 10-person quorum. Please attend if you can.
We hope all of our families have a merry and peaceful holiday break. See you next year!
Colden's First STEAM Night
Colden Elementary's STEAM Night was a huge success! Students and their families enjoyed making rockets with engineers from Moog Space and Defense Group, learning more about the upcoming solar eclipse from the Buffalo Museum of Science, and a live woodworking demonstration from Lumberjack Mark Bouquin. They were also able to make slime, operate robots and a drone, dig for fossils, make a floating raft, learn about germs and much more! Thank you to the Colden Elementary PTA and the Springville Middle School Science Olympiad team!
Cereal for BOLO
By Ava Wallum
5th Grade Student and Student Council President
The CES Student Council has been collecting boxes of cereal during the month of December to donate to Bread of Life. During our monthly meeting, we used recycled cardboard bins and colored them the best we could for the cereal drive. These bins were put outside of classrooms for classes to put cereal box donations in. Each morning before class, the student council went down to every classroom and collected the cereal boxes inside the classroom collection bins. The classroom with the most boxes of cereal will win an ice cream party! On December 21, 2023, the last day to bring in cereal boxes to count for the prize, the Student Council will construct a cereal box domino chain during Holiday Activity Day.
