Impact of Art Celebrates Students and Art Education
West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) students and families connected through student artwork at the district's Impact of Art event on Thursday, March 31. Students in grades K-12 exhibited their art and celebrated the importance of arts education with their families and other guests.
The annual event was held in March this year in part to highlight Youth Art Month, a celebration of the visual arts with the Council for Art Education. Youth Art Month encourages support for quality school art programs and recognizes skills developed through visual arts experiences like problem-solving, creativity, observation, and communication. This year’s theme was “Art Connects Us.”

ISASP Testing for Grades 3-11
WDMCS students in grades 3-11 will take the annual Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) tests the week of April 18-22. Based on schedules, some schools may also have testing the following week.
Parents/guardians received an initial email prior to spring break. Watch for more details in the coming days.

Conditions for Learning Survey
WDMCS is getting ready for students in grades 3-12 to take the annual Conditions for Learning survey. This is their chance to make their voice heard, and we intend to listen. The survey administration is required by the state’s plan to meet a federal law called the Every Student Succeeds Act.
Students will take the survey sometime between Tuesday, April 5, and Friday, April 29.

Superintendent Search Update
WDMCS is in the final stages of the superintendent search, with hopes of announcing the new superintendent within two weeks.
TIMELINE
- April 1-2: Board conducts first round interviews.
- April 4: Board selects up to three finalists.
- April 6-8: Board conducts final interviews.
- Week of April 11: Board selects a preferred candidate.
Once a candidate is selected and confirmed, WDMCS will send out a formal announcement to our families, staff, and broader community.

We are all hoping severe weather conditions are behind us for this school year!

A Message from the 2022 Staff Recognition Committee
It goes without saying that we are so grateful and proud of the teachers and staff in our schools! Each May (with the last two years being exceptions), the WDMCS Staff Recognition Committee (comprised of grateful citizens) hosts a large afternoon celebration for all district employees. We also honor retirees and recognize significant years of service milestones.
This May 4 event is funded entirely by the community (as no tax dollars pay for this event), and we are asking for your help! All donation sizes are appreciated.
Please consider honoring our West Des Moines Community Schools teachers and employees with a contribution to this special event. Because we are non-profit and qualified 501(c)(3), all donations are tax-deductible.
On behalf of the Staff Recognition Committee, THANK YOU for your support of our teachers and staff!
