Hello Sloan Creek Families!

Good evening, Sloan Creek Families. It has been another productive week at Sloan Creek. We are back in the swing of things after a week off and I have loved hearing about the trips and staycations that our students had during spring break.

With the change in the time, we tend to see arrivals to school get a bit later. The days are longer and I know this can mean later bed times for some. We are encouraging every student to wake up a few minutes earlier in the morning to give themselves time to get to school. As you have probably noticed, the construction has also added a bit of congestion to our traffic flow. Please allow a few extra minutes in the morning so that your student is not tardy.

Remember, tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day. Get those green clothes out! I know one thing is for sure, I feel quite lucky to get to spend my week days with some incredible kids! As always, thank you for sharing them with us.

Have an amazing weekend!

Lovejoy Proud,

Courtney Halpin

Attendance Information

Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).

Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences.

Spinal Screening-5th Grade Girls ONLY!!!

Dear Parents/Guardians of 5th grade girls:

Our school will do spinal screenings April 10-14, 2023 during your student's PE class.

State law requires that schools must screen students for abnormal spinal curvature in accordance with the following schedule:

• Girls will be screened two times, once at age 10 (grade 5) and again at age 12 (grade 7).

• Boys will be screened one time at age 13 or 14 (grade 8).

Trained screeners will check your child for signs of spinal problems like scoliosis. Catching a spinal problem early can make the treatment much easier. Not treating spinal problems can lead to serious health problems. The screening is simple. Screeners will look at your child’s back while he or she stands and bends forward.

Important Recommendations:

• Students should bring shorts to school for the exam.

• Girls should wear a thin t-shirt or a sports bra or a two-piece swimsuit top underneath their shirt on exam day.

• If girls are wearing a sports bra or a two-piece swimsuit top underneath their shirt, it is recommended they remove their shirt for the screening.

• The girls will be screened separately and one at a time with 2 female screeners present.

The school will send you a letter if your child does NOT pass the screening. The letter will tell you how to follow up with a doctor. This screening is not a medical exam. Your child still needs to see a doctor for checkups.

If you do not wish to have your child screened for any reason, you must notify the nurse through email, no later than Friday, 4/7/2023 by 3:00pm.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Behind the Badge with Officer Jacquez-After School Walker Route Update-NEW!!!!

Sloan Creek Families,

In order to eliminate any type of accident with the construction crew’s machinery, we have moved our student walkers’ route. Please note that each group will be walked by a staff member. They will be wearing a high visibility vest with a handheld STOP sign. Please pay attention to our walkers and staff to ensure all make it home safely. A map is located below for review.

Thank you for your cooperation. Please contact me with any questions or concerns,

It is time for the Outstanding Service Award! Sloan Creek is made better by many individuals that work together for one purpose. We will acknowledge one parent volunteer and one faculty member for their outstanding services. Our students love seeing our parent volunteers at school and our teachers are blessed by the help that they offer. Please submit your nominees for their outstanding service. Take time to reflect on who has made an impact on your student and their experience at Sloan Creek this year. Nomination deadline is March 31st. Awards will be announced in May. Click HERE to submit your nominees.

Next Membership Meeting will be in the SCIS Cafeteria on April 3 at 10:00 am. We will be approving our slate and amending our bi-laws and standing rules.
