Sheiko's 3rd Grade
Cloud Learning Newsletter- Week of 05/26/20
Good Things
So many good things have been happening in third grade! Students began logging onto live reading and math lessons last week. It was amazing to see so many of our third grade students at one time. In reading we began our mystery unit. The students are becoming detectives while listening to the class read aloud, A to Z Mysteries: The Absent Author. Be sure to have your child log on each day to hear the next chapter. If they are unable to make the live read aloud, teachers are posting a recording in Google Classroom. In math we began our geometry unit. The students had a fun project where they were asked to make a shape poster. You can see some of their creations in the class collage. Finally, we wrapped up our animal research unit last week. As a celebration activity, the students were asked to create the perfect zoo habitat for either the animal they researched or penguins. The third grade teachers were once again blown away by what the students created on their own. Great job third graders!
Attendance should not be completed until after the read aloud. The read aloud is important to the reading lesson the next day.
Live Lessons Daily 9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
This week Reading & Math will be taught live via Zoom. It is important that each child attend. This is an opportunity for them to interact with teachers and peers. We truly believe this will help students be engaged in the learning and hopefully make it easier for you as well. If your child/children are not available to attend the live lesson the video will be made available as soon as the video process. We anticipate adding it by 10:30 each morning.
Math material for this week.
Please make sure your child has ten items that are straight and the same length. Possible items include toothpicks, markers, colored pencils, dry spaghetti noodles broken in half, Q-tips.
Daily Expectations
The 3rd grade team would like to remind everyone that when possible it is a good idea to make sure to continue to practice math and reading.
- At least 30 minutes of reading a day.
- Math practice on Xtramath, Freckle, Prodigy, and/or Khan Academy Mappers.
- Writing- we highly recommend a journal that the children can write in daily or weekly.
Monday's Zoom Schedules will not be rescheduled for a different day.
All Zoom schedules are pictures for reference. The actual schedule with links will be provided by the teacher.
West Bloomfield Township Library Card
Need a library card to get access to more books online?
Friday Enrichment Day
If you would like an opportunity for your child to get in some extra academic practice, there will be a Google slide with enrichment activities made available to them on Fridays. This is optional but highly suggested. Also, if there are assignments or a day's work that was missed during the week you could use Friday as a make-up day.
