Odds and Ends
I can't believe it is already October! September went by in a flash. I am enjoying the cooler weather though!
Field Trip TOMORROW - Our field trip to Food Love Farm is TOMORROW! Please be sure to send you kiddo with a lunch unless you preordered one from school. Also, be dressed for the weather - it is chilly in the morning.
Thank you for the book orders....as soon as they come in I will send them home with your kiddo. If they are a gift let me know and I will email you when they get here.
PUMPKIN PATCH - is NEXT FRIDAY!!! 2nd grade is selling churros as well as doing a cake walk. Please send in $5 by Friday to help. We will be needing some help as well. Let me know if you are willing to work for about an hour.
Curriculum Update
HOMEWORK:
Please find the blue sheet in your kiddos planner. Sometimes you might see your child have the math homework partially done. If so that is because we are working on it in small group. Please be sure to go over it with them as well.
CLASS MEETING:
Today we talked about how to avoid distractions in class by focusing and paying close attention. Kids now they are always able to move to a new spot if there are too many distractions were they are at.
READING
We are reading Diary of a Spider again this week due to our strange week last week. This is humorous fiction. You will a lot of funny parts as well as things that could not happen in real life!
WRITING:
Kids did a great job last week on writing in complete sentences. This week we are focusing on the different types of senteces (command, statement, question, exclamation) as well as what are nouns.
MATH:
Chapter 2 in math is all about Numbers to 1,000. We are working on place value (hundreds, tens, and ones). We have talked about different ways we can show numbers:
standard - 123
written - one hundred twenty three
words and numbers - 1 hundred, 2 tens, 3 ones
Expanded notation - 100 + 20 + 3
Students are practicing writing numbers in words. This is tough for many of them.
SCIENCE:
This week we will be continuing to observe solids and identify their properties.
Technology: This week in computer lab students we are finishing working on their acrostic poem. They are changing fonts, font size, color, as well as adding in clip art.
Physical Education: Just a reminder that our days are on Wednesdays and Fridays. Be sure that your child has appropriate footwear on these days. We do PE with Mrs. White's class.
