The t-shirt artwork was created by student Kadyn McCarty in Monahans and Melissa Carrillo, our wonderful graphic designer at SAISD Special Programs.
Thanks to retiring Special Education Director, Jana Anderson, who gave the invocation and not to mention the inspiration to continue with this event, to Arthur Hobbs (Dad), who survived a mild heart attack just two weeks ago to help build, haul, and set up equipment, to Baynes Hobbs (Mom) who helped keep things in check between father and daughter, to my husband Don, for keeping me semi-sane and providing strong backs for moving equipment, to Dale Potter and his wife Lori, who provided the support, grills, food and coolers for the lunches, to Hiram Medero, Wes Riley, and his dad Weldon who were our master grillers, to Rachel Riley and Tiffany Ellringer, who put together and organized all the student volunteers for the events and teams, to Melissa Carrillo, Carol Bennett, Pam Yarbrough, Hilaria Arocha, Denise Boyle, Peggy Anderson, and Martha Elder, who were part of the awesome registration committee, to Billie Boyer for helping at every turn with anything and everything, to Jam Page, Lindy Lyles, and Patti Wyatt at ESC Region 15 for coming to the rescue packing lunches, to Buddy Bauer and his crew from SWCID, Dr. Angela Middlebrooks at WTRC, to Coaches Bozarth and Walker and CHS PE Partners who helped with the events and warm-ups, to Major Christopher Carney, Chief Kathleen Prince and Central High JROTC who provided the presentation of the colors and invaluable set-up help, to Rick Andrews at Foster Communications for dutifully handling the MC job, to the SAISD nurses, Ginger Hurst, Dawn Dusek, and Catherine Heimdale who provided care to our students on the field, to the outreach groups who came to give parents information about their services for Deaf/HH--Aid the Silent, the PEN Project, San Angelo Emergency 911 Services, Texas Hands and Voices, Isaiah's Place (who had a breakdown on the way, but showed up anyway), Communication Axess Ability Group, Blue Cross Blue Shield--, to Teresa Menchu for providing interpreters from Highland Council for the Deaf, to the Roman family who let us be a part of supporting WTDO alum Nickolas Roman on his path to the USA Deaflympics swim team, to Jessica Herman for keeping me calm throughout the day by organizing her set-up crews, to Dana Felps for providing interpreting services and being willing to jump in feet first, to Breanna Wood for stepping in and helping when we needed interpreters, to Shena Amarante for helping with awards, to Stephanie Kimbrough, who wanted to help with the awards, but couldn't (love ya, Steph!), to the dedicated teachers, interpreters, and families of each district who participated (have I said that already?), to photographer Jim Bean who snapped pictures, to Barbara Carter for handling the VIPS applications, Joe and Efran for the SAISD grounds help and hauling tables, to Mike Wolsfield and crew for the rock wall, to Carlos Rodriguez at Kona Ice, to community contributors, Steve Wells at Gandy Ink, Nelsy Rivas at Sonic, Buster Peek at Indeco Industrial Electric Co., Aaron Zimmerman (a year late) at Home 2 Suites, Mrs. Baird's Bread, Glazer's, Brotherton Foods, Ventura Gas Corporation, Hamilton Oilfield Services, Larry and Patsy Gillett, Dr. John P. We had a record number of competitors this year, and a beautiful day to hold the event. We are blessed to have so much community support. I hope everyone had fun, enjoyed the fellowship, and has another good story to tell of their athletic adventures!
