Friday Focus
August 21, 2015
Welcome to the Friday Focus
I plan on publishing a FF every Friday with the exception of the first Friday of the month--on that Friday, I'll do the "U-Knighted", which goes out to over 2,500 of our stakeholders, including you!
If you have items (pictures, video, story ideas) you'd like to see in FF or the U-Knighted, please get them to me and I'll include them in the next publication.

Go Wild for God!
Take some time today and reflect on your classroom. Does it look like a Catholic school classroom? What message does my classroom say about me? Is it the one I want?
Enrollment for 2015-2016
Well, I'd have to give us a solid B, maybe even a B+ for this year so far. As of this writing (Thursday, August 20), we have 589 students in grades K-12, up from 574 last year. In addition we have 61 three- and four-year olds in our pre-K programs!
We have lost some students; many moved away, but some also transferred to the public school. So we've still got some work to do! But let's keep moving forward! Let's better ALL of our programs! Let's THRIVE!
"Switch" by Chip and Dan Heath
I've created a Google Classroom, where you will be able to respond to questions that I post there.
To join this Google Classroom, go to https://classroom.google.com and click the plus sign next to your name. You will then be asked to enroll in the class by using a code. The code for this class is okce1iw.
I have posted a book review video on this classroom site. You can watch it before, during, or after you read the book. I have also posted the first two discussion questions. I'd like you to respond to the questions by September 13. By completing the discussion questions, you will receive professional development points (more on that to come!)
If you have difficulty finding my Google Classroom or seeing the assignments, please contact me and we'll figure it out together.
Twitter handles at NC
You can click on the link below to find Twitter handles of our Norfolk Catholic staff. Some accounts are more active than others, but this is also handy if you want to include a staff member in your tweet.
If I missed someone or if something's incorrect, please let me know and I'll fix it!

Another THRIVE story
The Grind
What grind? Grind is not in my vocabulary. If what you are doing in coaching is a grind take a giant step back and reconsider what you are doing. If you approach it as a grind it WILL BE A GRIND and all you will do is survive it. I want my athletes to drive and strive everyday to get better not just survive. I look on the time of preseason training as a tremendous opportunity to get better; this is specific preparation for competition. Competition drives you; it is an opportunity to shine, to show the fruits of your labor, to thrive. I am 68 years old and have been coaching for 45 years I am more fired up and looking forward to the new training more than ever before. Now is the time to apply what I have learned during professional opportunities in the last year. It has never been a grind for me. Sure I get tired but then I think about the opportunities and that sustains me. I consider myself very fortunate to be doing what I am doing. Working each day to improve myself and the athletes I work with. Never a grind. Does it get any better than that?
