Pattonville Preschool News
January 2019
Note from the Director
It is that time of year that we begin planning for next school year. Both Preschool and Kindergarten Registration are right around the corner.
If your child is currently enrolled in our tuition-based preschool program and will be returning to preschool next year, you will need to register them for the 2019-2020 school year. You may also register any younger siblings who are preschool age for next year at this time (children must be 3 years old by July 31, 2019). You will receive additional information via email on Monday, January 14th with instructions on how to register your child and any younger siblings for the 2019-2020 school year. Registration will start January 15th.
If your child is moving on to kindergarten in the fall, they will need to register for kindergarten. Please see the flyer below for more information.
In Partnership,

Safe Touch Plus Program
We are pleased to inform you that we will offer the “Safe Touch Plus” program, a safety presentation for our students on Tuesday, January 29th and Wednesday, January 30th. “Safe Touch Plus” is one of four presentations that the Child Abuse Prevention Program (CAPP) offers to children to teach them body safety. These personal safety programs are offered free to all children in the St. Louis metropolitan area and surrounding counties. The presentation lasts approximately 20 minutes. The goal of the “Safe Touch Plus” program is to provide exposure to the basic concepts of private body parts (parts of the body covered by a swimsuit) and the Body Safety Plan (No, Run, Tell). The “Safe Touch Plus” program utilizes a six-minute excerpt from the video Tick Tock Plays it Safe created by the Women’s Center of Tarrant County, as well as puppets and manipulatives. This interactive presentation is both fun and educational. All participants receive a coloring book reviewing the information that they learned during the program.
Parents will receive more information in the upcoming weeks with more details. If you have any questions about the program feel free to contact Erica Abowitz, our school social worker, for further information at eabowitz@psdr3.org or by phone at 314-213-8962.
Helping Children Cope with Stress
Not all stress can, or should, be avoided. Young children do not view the world as adults do. Misunderstandings or feelings of confusion can build up and leave children with stress they cannot handle alone. Young children cannon easily verbalize these feelings, so we adults much be aware of physical or behavioral changes; loss of appetite, sleep troubles, nightmares, headaches, stomachaches, or regressive behaviors such as thumbsucking.
Children often deal with stress through their play. They may act out events they find disturbing. One child may re-create an airplane crash after hearing about a real airline accident. Another may use dolls to have a conversation about divorce. This type of play helps children cope with events and feelings that might otherwise be overwhelming.
Adults play an important role in helping children cope with stress by providing a supportive atmosphere in which to talk about or play out concerns. We need to acknowledge and accept the feelings children express and give them our support, at home and at school. An attitude of love, understanding, and acceptance helps children get through difficult times.
FREE Developmental Screening
Do you want your child to receive a developmental screening through PAT, but don't have time to bring your child in to the center? We can screen them while at school!
NOTE: If your child has an IEP, the developmental screening was completed prior to the evaluation process and is not recommended. However, if you would still like your child to receive the developmental screening, please email us PattonvilleEC@psdr3.org.
Reminder: Tuition is due the 1st of the month.
