Principal Update
Happy Friday RSI Parents and Family Members,
This week we celebrated the arrival of eight recently hatched chickens to RSI. As you know RSI is lucky to have an amazing outdoor learning lab setting. Our current chicken squad is about four years of age. The outdoor learning teachers and student "chicken tenders" have been active in chicken renewal planning throughout the year. The new chicks will grow bigger and stronger and then join in living in the big coop. It is our goal to maintain a healthy coop, keep our students actively engaged in our local ecosystem and grow our outdoor learning options. Please take a look at the chicken button below. This is a video of our new chicks and their arrival this week.
I want to thank each of you who have helped your child/children engage in the The PTO sponsored Read-a-thon. This is THE BIG fundraiser for the 2021-2022 school year. The funding from this event will support ALL students at RSI. We have had a tremendous kick-off in terms of participation, so thank you for helping your child/children get logged in and reading. Keep the reading going! If you have not yet started, please check out the information below to do so. The PTO and RSI staff appreciate your support.
This week we kicked off our One Book, One School Reading project. This month all RSI Hawks will be reading and discussing Linked by Gordon Korman. I invite all of you at home to join in the read by having your child open the link below with their school email. You can read or listen as a family and review the discussion questions as well. The links below will help you if you choose to join in.
In celebration of Disability Awareness Month, I am thrilled to let you know that all of our RSI Hawks will get to meet with Anthony Ianni, live at RSI, next week. Check out the link below to learn more about Anthony's powerful story.
I wish you a wonderful and safe weekend.
Sincerely,
Dana Kaminski, Ph.D.

Vaccine Clinic - Friday, March 4th
Covid Info for Families
Please remember to send your student to school healthy. If a student is ill and has any of the symptoms of Covid listed below, we encourage you to get your student tested using a PCR test, which is available via Fishers Health Department (COVID Vaccine | Fishers, IN - Official Website) or the Indiana Department of Health (ISDH - Novel Coronavirus: COVID-19 Testing Information). PCR tests are the most accurate and provide less risk of a false positive or negative result. A visit to your physician is also suggested if you feel this is not Covid-related, then a doctor's note would be needed for your student to return to school. Please do not send your child to school ill or while waiting for Covid test results.
Symptoms to monitor for:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of Breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore Throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
Covid Positive Reporting
Notes from the Clinic
As we start experiencing cold weather, the clinic is in dire need of sweatpants/ joggers/ bottoms for students who need a change of clothes during school hours. Please donate your used, easy to wear pants in all sizes to the clinic.

Try This at Home:
Ask your child what kind of interpersonal problems they can solve on their own, and when they might need an adult’s help.
6th Grade Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will identify behaviors that can cause conflicts to escalate, so they keep them from becoming more serious.
Question:
Tell your child about a time when you played a part in escalating a conflict. Explain what you wished you had done instead. Ask your child if they are part of a conflict right now that they need help with.

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)
Response to Instruction (RtI) is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matched to student needs and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.
