On November 3, 2015, Gwinnett County voters will be asked to extend the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for Education (E-SPLOST). Over the years, E-SPLOST has funded educational capital projects that have benefited all students in Gwinnett County. It is important for Gwinnett citizens to be aware of the E_SPLOST and the school district's plan for meeting the classroom and technology needs of Gwinnett's growing student enrollment. October 5th is the last day to register to vote for this upcoming election. Absentee and early voting begins October 12th and ends October 31st. Click here for Gwinnett County voter registration information.

Over the past summer, Five Forks was awarded a $3,000 grant to purchase equipment for STEAM purposes. After careful consideration, we purchased eight mini Labdisc compact wireless sensors, which allow our students to measure a variety of factors including external temperature, ambient temperature, humidity, voltage, current, air pressure, heart rate, GPS, and pH. The sensors can easily be implemented in a classroom lab. Furthermore, they wirelessly communicate to a student’s tablet or laptop for data logging and graphing purposes. These sensors will be stored in the STEAM lab closet for our teachers to check-out and use with their students!

Environmental News!

Five Forks Middle School has earned the title of a Green and Healthy Taking Action school from Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. Our Environmental Club representatives, Mary Chamier, Bill George, and Julie Spence, led our school's team to help students develop the necessary 21st century knowledge and skills that foster life-long attitudes and behaviors that improve our environment and community. We appreciate their tremendous efforts to involve our staff and students in this endeavor. Way to go! Click here for further information on this initiative.

Also, don't forget about the event on Saturday, October 24th, from 9:00am - 1:00pm! All environmentally-conscious and caring volunteers are invited to Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful's Beaver Ruin Watershed Cleanup at Jackson Creek in Norcross. Click here for further details, information, and volunteer registration information.

Car Rider Reminders!

Thank you for helping us to ensure the safety of every student by adhering to the rules for car rider drop-off and pick-up. Here are a few points to keep in mind for the entire school year:

  • Car Rider Pick-Up/Drop-Off is only at the rear of the building adjacent to the blacktop - no other doors.
  • No morning drop-off in front of the building or in the side parking lot
  • No drop-off prior to 8:15am; pick-up is at 4:00pm; we do not have staff on duty to accommodate students outside of these times; if you need resources for early morning or late afternoon care for your child, click here for available options.
  • Students should not use electronic devices while waiting but be actively watching for their cars.
  • For the safety of our students, we ask that parents refrain from using electronic devices while driving in the car rider lane.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation.
