Soaring Over MDE
Amazing First 2-Days!
One group that is particularly excited to have us back on campus is the bees. We have noticed because we are eating regularly outside, the bees are attracted to the food. They seem very interested in lunch meat. We have requested an emergency spray and have moved the bee traps to a higher location to hopefully entice them to fly higher.
Speaking of eating...we do have two "NUT FREE" tables available at lunch and one table available at snack. They will be clearly marked on Monday. (Yesterday and today we were deciding the best location for the tables.) We also have hand sanitizer on each of the table groups and a portable hand sanitizer station right by the custodian closets.
MDE is already starting to grow a very large lost and found. If students leave their lunch boxes or water bottles outside, they will be left on the picnic tables after lunch. If they have lost a piece of clothing, there will be a clothes hanger in which clothes will be hung. Please know at the end of each month, we will be donating any items that have not been claimed.
I want to thank each and every one of our TEACHERS, STUDENTS, STAFF, and PARENTS for providing some grace and flexibility during this transition back onto our campus for in person instruction! We are still "pivoting" each day...I do feel that we are getting to the place where we will settle down and there will be no need to pivot. I am blown away by the support of this community.
New Drop-Off & Pick-up Procedures for Students
Drop-Off: When your student heads out to the upper playground, they are to keep their backpacks on and participate in the Walk 'n' Talk that will be occurring. Students will walk around the cones talking with their peers. When the bell rings, they will walk to their "line-up" location and wait for their teacher.
Drop-Off: When your student heads out to the lower playground, they are to put their backpacks by their teacher's cone and participate in the Walk 'n' Talk that will be occurring. Students will walk around the cones talking with their peers. When the bell rings, they will walk to their "line-up" location, which will be where their backpack was left. (There will be no more playing on the equipment before school.)
Pick-Up 1st Grade-5th Grade
We will continue to welcome parents to meet their student at their classroom. Please do not enter campus until 2:33pm. We are trying to ensure the best learning environment possible for all of our students. (When students see parents on campus early, they feel that school is done.)
For the upcoming week, Please continue to take your kindergartner to their classroom's front door. The teacher will meet your students at drop-off time.
Teachers will be bringing their students to the front of the school. There will be no need to go to the classroom to 'pick-up' your tk/kindergartner. (PM students will be playing and supervised on the lower playground during this time.)
