David Hein gave the LCTI report. He stated that a new house built by students will be auctioned on May 4, 2017, at 5:30 PM.
Rob Cohen gave the Parkland Community Library report and cited the new newsletter that recently was mailed to all residents. He highlighted an article that quoted Media Specialist Lauren Will from Parkland High School about the collaboration and partnership between the Library and School District.
He also highlighted Kelly Rosario's quote about the District goal of having all students read on grade level by the end of grade 3 and how district-sponsored camps, Parkland Library and school libraries work together to prevent "summer slide."
Bob Bold, gave the Parkland Foundation Update noting that the Parkland Education Foundation Board of Directors is proud to announce the establishment of an Endowment Fund. The fund was started with an initial investment of $80,000 generated by reserved funds gradually raised over the Foundation’s first five years. The Endowment will allow the Foundation to provide lasting support to staff and students for many years to come. It will be managed by a team of Parkland High School alumni at BB&T Investment Services, Inc.
Tickets are still on sale for the 6th Annual Distinguished Alumni Gala on Monday, May 1 at the Holiday Inn, Breinigsville. Again, registration information can be found on the Foundation website, www.parklandsd.org/foundation.
Bob Bold gave the legislative update and spoke about a push to have six board members approve a budget instead of 5 (the majority).
Carol Facchiano attended the National School Board Association's conference this past weekend. She attended a workshop on mindfulness and she met directors from many states and different-sized school districts. She noted that regardless of diverse backgrounds and location, everyone was serving in their positions to help children.
As they have done for months, Rob Cohen and Lisa Roth did not approve the check for 21st Century Cyber School because of the school's inefficiencies in serving kids as a Cyber Charter School.
Roundtable
Lisa also thanked Stephanie Klotz for her student report about many events in all of the schools. She said it is hard to get out to everything in this large district, but that Superintendent Rich Sniscak seems to get to everything and she thanked him for this endeavor.
