Lead Learner Highlights
We hope that you and your child have had a wonderful start to the school year. We've just released our first round of Virtual After School Activity options starting in October. Please note that four activities start NEXT WEEK! These activities are for ALL KP students. Please be on the lookout for other after-school activities in the next few of weeks. We hope students will find an area of interest among the options.
Also, please take time to read the virtual author visit information. As a result of the one last month, I am reading book two of a science fiction trilogy that I can't put down by Scott Reintgen. Next Monday's author visit for Renée Watson is not to be missed. I have read three of her books (all fantastic) and highly recommend sharing one with the young person in your life. She has books for elementary, middle, and high school students.
Stay Well!

Our Weekly Video Announcements
Virtual Author Visits
The middle school library media specialists have, thanks to a grant from the Foundation for West Hartford Public Schools and sometimes in collaboration with R.J. Julia Booksellers, to bring middle school authors to visit with students virtually throughout the school year. These are exciting opportunities for students to hear from and ask questions of authors. The link for students to sign up for these events can be found here.
Students can sign up to participate for as many as they would like - although they need to check in with teachers if the event coincides with a class. Many events will be recorded and posted on the KP Library website.
On October 5th, award-winning author Renee Watson will be the guest author, sponsored by R.J. Julia. If you would like to order any copies of her books (one of the titles is signed by the author as long as supplies last) please use this form. Books can be ordered online or using this printed form Renee Watson Book Order Form
Thank you for your support of reading at King Philip and thanks to those who contribute to the Foundation, which provides funding for so many amazing school projects.

Virtual Homework Center starting On Monday, October 5th
What is the Virtual Homework Center?
The Virtual Homework Center is a place you can get homework help from a live, online certified teaching assistant. The Virtual Homework Center is open after school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:30 to 4:25.
Any King Philip student is eligible to attend the Virtual Homework Center. All that is required is that you sign up by noon the day you plan to attend to receive a google meet invite, bring your assignments to work on, and follow the instructor’s rules and expectations. The online instructor will provide feedback to your teachers on your progress during your time in the Virtual Homework Center.

"Public Act 16-189
We believe that it is vital for all students in West Hartford Public Schools to be able to efficiently and effectively use digital tools that empower them in all phases of the learning process, including research, problem solving, content creation, communication, and collaboration. We also believe that we must be committed at all times to protecting students' privacy and providing them with a powerful and safe educational experience. To that end, the West Hartford Public Schools follow the legal requirements of Public Act 16-189 to promote the safety and security of all students and staff.
In compliance with Connecticut State Law, we update online programs used within the district that house student data. The programs may be used district-wide, in a very small number of classrooms, or with individual students. The list will be updated each time the district enters into a new contract where student data is housed. For more information on the specifics of Public Act 16-189 and updates of vendor agreements, visit www.whps.org/pa189."
