About this Presentation
TELL A STORY ABOUT A TIME
Improving Narrative Writing
In this dynamic and extremely practical workshop, learn how to improve narrative writing with powerful oral, kinesthetic, and written exercises that show all students how to build an effective story, including students who struggle with writing. This workshop is a perfect fit for the demands of the Common Core Standards because it uses text models to build reading, writing, and vocabulary skills.
Outcomes/Objectives
As a result of attending, teachers will:
- Practice effective and engaging strategies that help students build a toolbox of narrative techniques.
- Design assignments that break narrative writing into manageable pieces so students can get more practice planning without the burden of constant correcting.
- Provide constructive feedback that transfers some editing and revising responsibility to students.
- Use model texts, white boards, and student work to build both narrative and expository skills.
- Communicate the complex expectations of a writing rubric into clear, student friendly goals.
