This is Kindness Week!

Student Leadership has designed activities for Kindness Week from January 27-31. All week long, students will engage during recess, lunch and classroom time to identify, plan and practice habits of kindness for themselves, others and the planet. We'll have a special spirit day on Wednesday when we'll "dream about kindness" in an all-school pajama day!

Outdoor Science School

In just over a month, our sixth graders will travel to the Three Oaks Outdoor Science School for a week of confidence-building, hands-on science and fun! Student registration forms are due this Friday, January 31. We are also asking that all donations for the trip be sent to the school office by February 14. Donations are essential in addition to school fundraisers! The school must raise about $320 for each of our 72 students. Consider sharing your love for the sixth graders by donating to this special trip. Checks of any amount can be sent to the school office and made out to "Sycamore Elementary School." Thank you all for your help.

More on this presentation

Join us for a presentation led by Farzana Nayani, who will discuss how to interact with our children about race at home, at school, and in the community. Bring your questions and examples so we can talk through how to overcome potential challenges and move into these conversations and moments with more ease. Farzana Nayani has been a national speaker on diversity and inclusion for over 20 years. She has worked with schools, public agencies, and non-profit organizations as a consultant and trainer on inclusivity, intercultural communication, and unconscious bias. She helped develop a number of school-wide initiatives to foster learning and conversations around inclusive practices at schools. In addition to her work as a trainer, Farzana is a parent and former teacher, as well as author of a book entitled "Being All of Me: A Handbook for Teachers and Parents of Multiracial, Multiethnic, and Transracially Adopted Children." She has been featured in LA Parent Magazine and on NPR on raising children in a conscious and inclusive way. For more info:
