Ballad of Birmingham
Poem by: Dudley Randall
The image painted
The image I found in my mind was horrid. I thought of little black and other raced children playing outside and being shot or killed by a white. Here is the image I thought in my mind.
Imagery
Poetic Device
Imagery- when you can paint a mental picture with words in a story or poem.
Examples
"the dogs are fierce and wild,... she clawed through bits of glass and brick, then lifted out a shoe".
Song Example
The song by Twenty One Pilots; Holding Onto You
"please let me paint a mental picture portrait"
Key words
Sacred, last, where, smile, you. Those are the words I believe give this poem strength. Think if those words applied to you or others you loved.
Theme Statement
The Ballad of Birmingham was most likely written to show how the other races were sick and tired of being treated horribly. Dudley Randall had amazing imagery writing this poem as well.
