December 2022

Admin Message

Hello Blues!

November has been an eventful month! We have been packing and preparing for our big move. We also hosted our last major events in the school. Our Celebration of Excellence took place on November 17th and 18th where we recognized student achievements and awarded scholarships from the 2021-22 school year. In addition, our greater school community had the opportunity to visit Paul Kane for “One Last Look” on November 23rd. Alumni staff and students walked the halls, reminisced with old friends, and said goodbye to the Home of the Blues for the past 50 years. It was an emotional evening for our community.

You should have also received an email from Erin Steele regarding our upcoming plans for online learning December 19th - 22nd, and our new school opening on January 9th. Please take time to familiarise yourself with these important details and the map of the new building.

We wish all of you a fantastic December as we get closer to our holiday break! Go Blues!

Your Paul Kane Administration,

Erin Steele, Colleen Anderson, Kris Horb and Ruby Solomon

SOCIAL MEDIA USE

A reminder about social media use…

As we near the mid-way mark of the semester, we want to remind parents about the responsibilities students have when using social media platforms, especially those that are video-based:

Obtain appropriate consent from individuals - peers AND teachers - who appear in video, audio recording and images before forwarding them to other people or posting them to online spaces.

Before recording, be transparent about the purpose of the video, audio recording or images. Recording things with underlying motives and posting them out of context is not appropriate.

Respect others and communicate in a supportive way. Never participate in harmful, inappropriate or hurtful online behaviours.

We encourage you to have conversations with your children about social media regularly. Supporting them as they transition through adolescence and into adulthood will only help them become the best version of themselves.

For more information about our division policy about Acceptable Use of Technology, please visit the division website.
