Principal's Update
10/20/2020
Dear OLV Families,
It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of October and moving towards the holidays already! Time flies when you are busy and having fun, right?!
We cannot thank you enough for the ongoing communication, cooperation, patience, and support that you have shown this year. Things are not easy on anyone, and we are so thankful to be able to partner with you to try and make this the best year possible. We know it can be frustrating trying to monitor your child's Zoom meeting, help them with homework, find the right Zoom meeting (and password), answer teacher emails, keep up with grades, and organize your calendar(s) all while trying to work and live in the middle of a pandemic. We applaud you and we will continue to work and partner with you to provide the best education and support possible to your child(ren).
As we begin to approach the holiday season, traveling to see family/friends is on the top of our minds. The Maryland Department of Health has issued a public health advisory for out of state travel which states that Marylanders are strongly advised against traveling to states with positivity rates of 10% or higher. The CDC warns that travel increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19 and recommends that the best way to protect yourself and others is to stay home.
Within the Archdiocese of Baltimore, we continue to work diligently to mitigate the risks of Covid-19. Our Lady of Victory Catholic School has established a policy whereby both students and staff must notify school administration in writing if they intend to travel to a state or country with a positivity rate for COVID-19 of 10% or greater during the period of their stay (see https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/tracker/overview if the state you are visiting has reached that threshold). In the event that students and/or staff members elect to proceed to visit a state with a positivity rate of 10% or greater, those traveling will be required upon their return to provide evidence of a negative PCR test result for COVID-19 and are asymptomatic or they have completed an entire 14 day quarantine.
On Friday, October 23rd, the NJHS is sponsoring a Tag Day to support the OLV Food Pantry. Students may dress down if they bring in a $1 or a canned good to donate on Friday.
Check out our Facebook and Instagram pages for details about our Pumpkin Carving/Painting Contest. Prizes include two $10 gift cards. Details on social media.
Halloween will be celebrated on Friday, October 30th. All students are allowed to wear Halloween costumes that day provided that they adhere to the Halloween costume guidelines found below. In lieu of a costume, students may dress in Orange and Black. Students will celebrate in their classrooms during the afternoon with the treats provided by the room parents.
The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring an outdoor movie night at OLV for school and parish families at 7 PM on Friday, October 30th. See the flyer below for details
On Wednesday, November 11th (Veteran's Day), we will have a 12:30 dismissal instead of a full day in order to provide professional development for the faculty and staff. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Please keep reading for upcoming dates, events, photos, and more.
Sincerely,
Ryan Hellem, Principal
