"Our emotional reactions to a situation make us not think broadly enough when trying to problem solve.” Qi Gong Grand Master, Ou Wen Wei, June 18th, 2017 - Path of Life Lecture
Look in to your wise heart; when was the last time you may have had an emotional meltdown or over-reacted to an inconsequential or serious situation? I've been there myself countless times.
Now, that you are rehashing the memory, consider a dragonfly. Dragonflies are SURVIVORS; they are at least 180,000,000-years-old. They are an ancient archetypal symbol of the power of light. Starting out in the water as little nymphs, they mature, breaking free from their watery existence and emerge into sunshine as skilled, flying hunters. They excel in the heat of summer while ridding us of mosquitoes and other pests.
When we let our emotions rattle our minds and hearts, we are like little nymphs struggling to grow beyond our underwater incubators. We yearn for light, peace and mastery of life. The mastery to fly to the sun, confident, unabashed, steady, and balanced. Like the great dragon hunters, er uh dragonfly hunters, we yearn to win at life. However, we are often overcome by fear, anger, sadness…
What does a winning life mean to you? To me, it means embracing stability. Being prosperous while being my authentic self and surrounding myself with healthy love.
One of the best ways to attain a winning life may be a calm and balanced approach to whatever crap sandwich you may get served on any given day. Feel emotions, notice, let them pass through, yet not consume you. Whew! Easier said than done!
On a particularly "craptacular" day for my family, I was crying and sending my Grandfather qi. He was slowly dying, once a warrior in WWII and Pearl Harbor Survivor. Now skin and bones, scared and in pain. I was new at the “qi send” and wasn’t quite sure if was making a difference. In my heart, I asked my grandfather, “am I helping? Is this worth it?” I felt so desperate and panicky. I wanted to stop his suffering so badly. Scared and nervous, I began feeling foolish. What is this qi “woo woo” anyway? I couldn’t imagine how he felt. Though I did sense him struggling to hold on despite it all.
All of the sudden, I was overcome with chills all over my body. Goose bumps popped up on my arms and I heard the phrase, “you bring light in to a dark place.” Then I heard techno music —one of my favorite songs from my party queen early twenties filled my head with that line being repeated. (Messages don’t care about the context, just as long as I “get it”.)
Since that strong message, I have never doubted my abilities or the power associated with “a qi send”. Calm and centered, I kept sending qi to my Grandfather: Master Ou was sending qi as well. I had an appointment with my other teacher, Paul Fraser, later that week. We discussed my grandfather. He told me where to send qi exactly. That evening, I sent my grandfather qi in a specific area in his brain. The next day, my Grandfather finally died. I feel strongly that we held a supported space for him, full of light, which was a large factor in him finally letting go. Thank you Pappy for your last gift to me — you taught me to believe in myself and the power of light.
When I overcame my nerves and fears, I began the path of mastering my life, a life that I never imagined while growing up. Back then, I wanted to be a wife, mom, and social worker! I guess these days I’m sort of a metaphysical social worker. I never asked for all of this “woo woo” though. I’ve been kicking and screaming trying to avoid it. It’s hard to be different! ;)
But, here I am, embracing my path. Letting go of fear and worry, trusting in the power of light. As I emerge from feeling bogged down in water and afraid, I let go of trying to control an inauthentic illusion of myself. Not everyone is going to like this authenticity and that's ok.
I strive everyday to steady my emotions for my clients, my family, for all of humanity. I strive to meet my higher-self and finally feel comfortable in my skin on the right path… as dragonflies zip about, a path to the sun.
