Principal's Perspective
I wanted to give a special shoutout to our counselor, Mrs. Newman, this week. It's National School Counselor Appreciation Week and we sure are lucky to have such a supportive counselor for our students, families, and staff! We often lean on her during the unexpected and uncertain times and we're grateful for her calm, nurturing manner. As one student said, "we also love her lessons in class!" Thank you, Mrs. Newman!!
In the next week or so, you may receive an attendance letter from the school alerting you to the frequency of absences and/or tardies, especially if your child has more than 7 absences. School attendance is strongly correlated with school and life success and because of this it is the legal duty of schools to track and record attendance of students. Our handbook provides additional information about our school board adopted attendance policy should you have further questions. Please know that if you've notified the office and/or provided doctor's notes for absences this is more of an informative letter and not anything you need to take action with. Our goal is to bring awareness and help support students as best as possible with school attendance.
Lastly, we'll have Valentine's Day parties on Tuesday afternoon at 1:45. If attending, background checks need to be on file and you should communicate with your child's teacher ahead of time. Parties will begin at 1:45 and parents can begin coming in at 1:30.
Have a fantastic weekend!
In partnership,
Mary Beth Fischer
A Note from Nurse Jeannie
Dear Parents,
Valentine’s Day is approaching so I just wanted to give you a friendly reminder about our Food and Wellness Program. All of our parties at Maple Glen are Food Free due to the increase of students with severe food allergies. Please do not send any candy attached to your student’s Valentine’s Day cards. Also do not send any food or treats to school to be passed out for Valentine’s Day with your student.
Remember there are a lot of fun non edible items that can be brought in with your child’s Valentine’s Day cards. (Pencils, stickers, erasers etc.) Many of these items can be purchased at Target, Walmart, Dollar Tree, Party Tree and Michael’s. Thanks for all of your help and cooperation. Our main objective is to keep our students healthy and safe; and still have fun!

Maple Glen – Kids Heart Challenge
Our school had so much fun kicking off this year’s Kids Heart Challenge today! We traveled the globe with this year’s heart heroes, who emphasized the importance of things like helping others, drinking water, getting enough sleep and saying NO to tobacco and vaping. BONUS: your student will get this awesome wristband just for joining at Maple Glen – Kids Heart Challenge or using the KHC app.

Lunch Visitors at MGES
We are opening up the opportunity for family members to join their child/children for lunch! For student safety and to accommodate our limited cafeteria seating, we are allowing our families to visit once a trimester. To be prepared for our guests and to check the Safe Visitor Registration of incoming visitors (this is required for every visitor) please make sure you register 24 hours in advance.
We allow 5 visitors per grade level lunch. Please use one slot per person signing up. Due to limited space, visitors will be sitting with their child(ren) at their classroom tables. You have the option of bringing in a home packed lunch or purchasing a lunch at school. No fast food will be allowed at this time. Lunch menus can be found here. The price for an adult lunch is $4.70.

Dismissal Changes

Join the WWS Team!
Westfield Washington Schools is committed to meeting the needs of each student. The best way to accomplish our mission and vision is to ensure that every position in the district is filled with a caring individual dedicated to ensuring each student learns and grows. Being part of a dynamic team, working to ensure each student achieves their full potential is inspiring and energizing. Applying and working as an Instructional Assistant (IA) in one of our schools is an excellent career choice for individuals who would like to make a profound difference in the lives of children. All nine schools currently have open IA positions. We offer full-time and part-time positions. Our IA positions allow parents to work during their students' school schedule - thus eliminating the need for child care - while directly contributing to the success of their student’s school. We operate at optimal levels when we are fully staffed with IAs.
If you are interested in joining our team, please contact your building principal or assistant principal or click here to apply. If you have any questions about these opportunities, please contact Stacy McGuire, Assistant Director of Human Resources, at mcguires@wws.k12.in.us.
