In The Classroom... 4/8/18
We're still observing the bald eagles. The kids wrote informational writings and created a bald eagle to display at our Wax Museum in May. We can't wait to show all the cool facts we learned.
It's all about writing in our room lately. Not only have we been working on informational writings, but we have also been focused on fairytales. We've begun writing our class fairytale which is turning out to be pretty cool and the kids have started their rough drafts for their own fairytale. Some of the kids are ready to start publishing while others are finishing up their creative stories. We will be having our Storybook Ball after track out. I am still trying to figure out the date and will let you know as soon as possible; it will either be Thursday, June 7th or Wednesday, June 13th beginning at 10:00. This will be a BIG event for our class and will be a part of our End of Year Celebration. It's important that each child have family their to celebrate their hard work and to hear their fairytale so please, please save these two dates and plan to come. Again, i will let you know after track out which date it will be. We will also need lots of parent volunteers to help with food and decorating for this event. Let me know if you are interested in helping out.
In Science the kids explored and compared 3 types of sandpaper and learned how it's made and its uses. Next week we will do an experiment with unwashed sand to see what happens when water is added.
We are continuing to focus on the equal sign and its meaning for math. The kids are enjoying math stations and using the equabeam to balance equations.
Our field trip is next week! Please be sure to read the NOTES section for important info on this. Please don't skip reading it!
I hope you all had a great weekend. Tell the kids I said hi and I will see them tomorrow!
Take Care,
Ms.Gower

NOTES~
- Spring/Class Pictures- These are on Tuesday. We will be taking our class photo so please be sure to dress your child up and send them with a smile.
- Field Trip- Our trip is on Thursday. We will be boarding buses right at 9:30 so if your child is a car rider, please be sure to have him/her at school on time so they will not miss the bus to the museum. Also, it's important to note that we will not be back to school until after the school buses have dismissed; therefore, bus riders will not be able to ride his/her bus home. You are required to make arrangements to have your child picked up by 4:30. I will be using Class Dojo to keep you informed as to when we are leaving the museum and when we are near the school. Please be mindful have someone at the school to get your child on time. Ms. C and I both have families and would like to get home to them after all the kids are picked up at 4:30. Please do not wave your child to you when we get back to the school. They will not be permitted to walk off. You will have to come to us and let either Ms. C or I know that you are taking them. If your child attends after school care, Ms. C will walk them to the cafeteria once we arrive.
- Field Trip Lunches- You will receive a field trip reminder on Wednesday. It will indicate if your child ordered a lunch from school or needs to pack one from home. School lunches had to be pre-ordered in advanced so we CANNOT order any more lunches for those who chose to bring one from home. I am sorry. If you are packing your child's lunch be sure to pack everything in disposable containers/bags and not in lunchboxes or Tupperware. We will be throwing away all lunch items after we eat and will not be bringing containers back to school. Try not to over pack too much lunch for your kids too as again, we are not saving anything after we eat and I'd hate for their food items to get wasted. Write your child's name on his/her lunch so it will be easier to pass out when it's time to eat. If your child ordered a school lunch, please be sure to send in money for its cost. If you have prepaid lunches then the cost will be deducted from that. We will be providing the kids with a snack for the trip so you do not need to pack one for them.
- Sunscreen/Clothes for Field Trip- It looks like we will have a warm and beautiful day for our trip. If your child is sensitive to the sun or burns easily, you may want to apply sunscreen to them. This has to be done at home as it is not allowed to be put on at school per Wake County Policy. Your child can wear a hat and sunglasses if they wish, but it is their responsibility to carry it and not their chaperones. Also, they need to wear tennis shoes- NO SANDALS or FLIP FLOPS. We do a lot of walking during the trip so tennis shoes are more comfortable. Don't forget that your child will be wearing his/her class t-shirt during the trip. They will not be taking these home so your child will need to wear a thin shirt to school that will feel be comfortable underneath their class shirt.
- DON'T SEND THEIR BOOKBAG ON THURSDAY- We will not be going back to the classroom upon return to the school after our field trip so your child does not need to bring his/her bookbag. If they do it will have to stay in the classroom until Friday.
- PLEASE let me know if you have any questions. It's going to be a fun day!
