Parent Teacher Conferences:
Titan Families:
Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences will occur on Thursday, March 15, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. We are hoping you will come and dialogue about the academic progress of your child. In an effort to ensure time for each parent, we are scheduling individual conferences for teachers. Prior to March 15, 2018, please call the front office at (502) 647-1160 and indicate you would like to schedule a parent-teacher conference. The office staff will take it from there! Our appointment scheduler will be available to receive your call from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on March 9 through March 12, 2018. There are a limited number of slots available for appointments, so please do not delay in scheduling your appointment. (Please note: Walk-ins on the night of the conference may or may not be able to meet with a teacher due to scheduling.) Conferences will be scheduled in 10 minute intervals. If you have received a direct invitation from a teacher, we ask that you make a sincere effort to attend and dialogue with them about your child’s progress.
We are also offering several ways for students to receive additional academic support.
- Titan Time, a 50-minute period held each Thursday during the school day, designed to allow teachers to intervene quickly when students struggle to master a learning target. This time can also be used to provide remediation of standards as well as redos/retakes of assessments.
- Math Help, grades 9-12, every morning from 8:00 – 8:25 a.m. in any math classroom
- Table Top Wednesdays, grades 9-12, for all subjects every Wednesday from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the Media Center.
- 8th Grade Academic Support, grade 8, for all subjects every Thursday from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.
- Individual Teacher Help: many teachers will work with students individually when pre-arranged.
We are committed to achieving our mission: to graduate every student college and/or career ready through positive collaboration, systems of support, and a commitment to excellence for all. Please ensure you child takes advantage of these systems of support if needed. We appreciate your partnership in your child's education and look forward to seeing you next Thursday at Parent-Teacher Conferences from 4 – 7 p.m.

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
I worked as a Mag Card Stenographer for The duPont Company in Wilmington, DE. Executives would sit in their offices, pick up their phones and dictate their correspondence. I would retrieve their messages through my headphones and transcribe them out on my IBM Selectric typewriter. The process used a large (about 4" x 6") magnetic card that was inserted into this huge computer and then it printed a perfect copy (as opposed to typists' errors and corrections). The IBM Mag Card II was actually the prototype of the desktop computer.

Where is your favorite color?
Purple
What is your favorite thing to do?
Spend time near the ocean and/or go to dinner and a Broadway Show
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
Perform as an accomplished musician. I don't play anything, so this would be short lived - and impossible.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I considered becoming a travel agent when I was young. Instead, I just traveled. My husband and I married upon his graduation from the U of DE where he was commissioned as an Army officer and we just kept moving. The opportunity to experience and embrace different countries, different cultures, and amazing parts of our own country were life changing for me. Now I am ready to travel most anywhere, any time, and help others to do the same.
What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas - the whole season
What is your favorite thing about working at Collins High School?
I like that we are a family that embraces diversity in all of its forms. We welcome everyone but work hard to individualize every student's needs despite physical or mental challenges, language barriers, ethnic and cultural differences, and socioeconomic status.

Track & Field News:
Kentucky State Indoor Championships (3-3-18)
The Running Titans ended the indoor track and field season with a crescendo at the Kentucky State Indoor Championships at Mason County’s 12-laps-to-the-mile track on Saturday March 3rd. The Titans attack on the school record book started in earnest when junior T. J. Rawlins got the ball rolling with a big triple jump PR of 42-8. This broke the previous record (41-4.75) that he established at the Vanderbilt H.S. Indoor Inv. on Feb. 3rd. He bested the second place jumper by almost four feet. Junior Nathan Jacobs was next to re-write the record book as he pushed his indoor shot put school record to 44-11.5 which was good for second place. Rawlins later sailed 20-0 in the long jump to get the runner-up spot. Sophomore D.J. Web rounded out the scoring by going 6.97 in the 55 meter dash to pick up a point. The Collins boys finished with 27th points which was good for 6th place.
On the girls’ side, Collins only entrants, seniors Nylah Smith and Hannah Cleary, both scored. Cleary finished fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump, while Smith claimed seventh in the shot put. The girls finished in 10th place with 11 points.
Head Coach George Sanderlin said, “This was a great culmination to the indoor season and positions us well to continue our full frontal assault on the school record book.”

Dear Parents,
Your support is needed to assist in the Reading Gala program hosted by the Martha Layne Collins High School Library on Thursday, April 12th, 2017. The Reading Gala program is designed to expose students to the pleasures of reading, discussing, and evaluating fiction and nonfiction. Each mentor will discuss a favorite book with a group of six high school seniors.
The Reading Gala is a Pathway to Graduation Project and all seniors are required to participate in the event.
The level of excitement is always quite high in the library as approximately 250 seniors prepare to select their book for the Reading Gala..
PARENTS, WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are requesting your assistance with serving refreshments and/or providing some refreshments for this event. 8 large bags of candy
Please consider helping us by serving or donating items. Please respond to sharon.mudd@shelby.kyschools.us if you are able to help. We must know what you plan to bring ahead of time in order to make this a successful event.
Please send or deliver nonperishable items by Friday, March 23rd or earlier if you like.
Perishable items may be sent the morning of the Reading Gala (April 12th) or
