Hawk Talk

Sept. 7th-10th

Carranco's Corner

Hobby Family,

It was amazing to see teachers, parents and students come together at the annual Watermelon (paleta) Social. I think it is powerful to have positive interactions with students, parents and colleagues outside of the classroom walls. Thank you so much to our PTA for making this happen! It is great to have our students back in the building and great things are happening in the classrooms. Our staff continues to use the LMS Schoology as a classroom resource. It allows students and parents to have the learning targets and classroom resources at their fingertips outside of the school day. We are going into our 3rd week of instruction and progress reports will be available on September 13, 2021. Schoology houses the week at a glance to provide you with information about what your children are working on during the week. Parents still have access to their Schoology accounts and current grades are in the parent HAC portal.

As always, You Matter!

Praise Promote & Protect.

Counselor Connection

The theme for the Hobby counseling office this year is GRIT.

Grit is a mental toughness or courage that leads to perseverance. Counselors will be delivering guidance lessons to all grade levels throughout the year. Guidance lessons will focus on teaching specific intrapersonal skills with an emphasis on grit. We would love for you to use this word at home to help incorporate a common language.

NISD 1:1 Device Opt Out

If your student has their own mobile device that is sufficient to engage in daily learning at home and in school, please notify the district via the NISD Device Lending Agreement link on nisd.net/parents page for data gathering purposes. Please note that if your student has an adequate device at home, that will not prevent your student from receiving a district issued device unless you decline/opt out of the Northside device on the nisd.net/parents page via the NISD Device Lending Agreement link.

If you choose to opt out of receiving a Northside device, it’s strongly encouraged that your child bring a household device to complete the Northside curriculum. Please refer to the district handbook to read policies regarding “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) and understand that troubleshooting on a BYOD device will be limited to connecting to district WiFi, student password assistance, and basic website navigation. BYOD devices will not be serviced by the district Helpdesk.

Lastly, if you opt out of a Northside device for your student(s) and wish to switch to a district issued device you will need to revisit the NISD Device Lending Agreement link on nisd.net/parents to change your selection at any time.
