Welcome to the Prairie Point Panther Press!
Dougie Stylz from US 99.5 visits Prairie Point to pick up Holiday cards for the troops
We were very honored to have Dougie Stylz from Stylz and Roman 99.5 Radio Station(See link below). visit our school today to pick up the Holiday Cards we made for the troops who are serving our great country overseas.
He met with the Student Leadership Team and taped these kids reading their cards for the troops. This recording will be played on their morning show tomorrow morning between 7:40-8:15.
He also took several pictures and videos with the children and these will be posted on social media!
Dougie then visited several classrooms and thanked them for their participation in supporting our troops. He gave our school and your children many compliments on how well behaved they were! Yay!
It was a very special visit so if you get a chance, ask your child if they got to meet him, check out the pictures on social media, and listen to the radio show tomorrow morning!

Cold Weather reminder - Recess
Now that the cold weather and snow are upon us please remember that while we won't have outdoor recess on days when the real feel is ten degrees or below, please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the cold weather including layers/snow pants if necessary, a winter coat, hats, gloves, and boots. As a reminder, students who do not have snow pants on outdoor recess days are not allowed in the snow.
Greetings from the Prairie Point Art Room
Students in grades K-5 have been learning so many amazing things in art lately! Kindergartners used lines and shapes to make LARGE turkeys. We listened to the book Turkey Trouble for inspiration. We drew with oil pastels and painted with watercolors!
First Graders read the book Elmer and made our own elephants for the Elmer's day parade. We used pencil, maker, crayon, scissors and glue. Each elephant was so amazing and different!
Second graders have started learning about landscapes. We played a dice drawing game which helped us learn about foreground, middleground, background and horizon lines. We will be painting a landscape soon.
Third graders have just finished their work with George Rodrigue's Blue Dog. Third graders added personal details to their own dog drawing to show a personal connection. Some dogs wore clothes, some had roller skates, some had jobs. Oil pastels allowed each student to mix white into the fur color to make a tint as well as a bit of gentle black to make a shade. These dogs are so unique!
Fourth graders learned about the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. He is know for his unusual portraits. Shape clues and color clues helped him to make pickles for noses and mushrooms for lips. We used shape clues and color clues to build a HUGE sandwich. Each ingredient is recognizable only because of the shape and color. Yum Yum!
Fifth graders are beginning to make their own landscapes including imaginary castles. Foreground and background are necessary so that the viewer can see that the castle is on a hill or in a valley. It might be underwater or on the moon. Each castle may be surrounded by fields, homes or details of the student's choice. the landscape gives a lot of information and creates the setting for the castle. The fifth grade artists will be suing overlapping colors of crayon with texture plates to complete their composition.
Does your family use pre-made frosting? It typically comes in a plastic container with a lid. If you do use this time saving frosting, please wash and save the frosting containers to the art room! They are wonderfully helpful as painting cups and drawing tool holders.

Help needed for the Art Room
Parents,
I am looking for a few families to help make Crayon Cookies for the art room. Students have an option when their work is finished to peel old broken crayons. These crayons are then melted in muffin tins and recycled as new Crayon Cookies. Crayon cookies are used as bingo prizes and rewards. I have all the materials you will need including the muffin tins and a multitude of peeled crayons awaiting melting!! Would your family be interested in helping? If so, contact Mrs. Collins. I will send home detailed directions, the crayons and the muffin tins with your child or leave the materials in the office for you to pick up. You will need young helpers to break the crayons and fill the tins and adult help to use the oven. Thank you for your help!!
