Principal's Message
This month we celebrate our military servicemen and women on Veterans Day, November 11th. We want you to know how much we appreciate and honor your service. Our 4th graders have been working on two special songs to celebrate our veterans that we will share out with you virtually later this week. We are also creating cards for our hospitalized veterans at the VA Hospital. Thank you for all you do to keep us safe.
We are currently experiencing lower student attendance than expected at Enon. It is very important that your child is here at school so that they do not miss instruction. We also wanted all families to be aware that our state accreditation is based on having a 95% attendance rate or better. Please make every effort to send your students to school on all healthy days. It will also help us if trips are planned during times school is not in session. Thank you very much for your support with this.
Last year, parents, staff, and students (grades 3-12) took the NASSP Building Ranks Survey about our school’s culture. From November 28 through December 9, 2022, CCPS will once again be giving the Building Ranks survey to parents, staff, students (grades 3-12), and community partners. We look forward to continuing to partner with you in improving our school culture. Be on the lookout for the school-specific link that I will send out the week of November 28. We greatly value your thoughts. If you don’t wish for your child to participate in the student survey, please let us know by November 24.
We are also offering our first Parent Workshop of the year this month on Nov. 15th from 6-7. This is also Family Book Fair Night and child care is available for the workshop if you sign up in advance (link is below).
Workshop Information: Kids experience many emotions during their childhood years. Emotion regulation is about expressing emotions in a socially appropriate manner. It involves teaching children to identify emotions and teaching them to manage those emotions by themselves. When we teach kids that their emotions are valid, we help them view what they feel as normal and manageable. Please join us to learn some tips on how to help your child manage their emotions. College and Career Week:
Each November we focus on exploring colleges and careers and have special dress up days to celebrate the week. College and Career Week is Nov. 14-18 and here are the special Dress Up Days
Finally, this month we also celebrate Thanksgiving! We are so thankful for our Enon community and wish you a blessed time with family and friends.

Bond referendum includes funding for schools
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Chesterfield residents will vote on the Community Facilities Bond Plan, which would authorize the issuance of $540 million in general obligation bonds. If approved, the Community Facilities Bond Plan will, over the next eight to 10 years, fund 26 capital improvement projects split among four categories: schools, public safety, libraries and parks.

MUSIC
In October, 4th graders learned 2 songs in honor of America’s veterans. They learned how to sing with clear intonation as a group and follow simple conducting cues. Kindergarten and first grade learned simple song games such as Shoo Fly and Starlight. These games require students to wait for their turn and cooperate in a group setting. 3rd grade learned about Rondo form. 2nd grade created patterns to accompany music.
ART
K & 1st are learning about Vincent Van Gogh’s sunflower painting. They will create mixed media pieces representing a sunflower still life. 2nd & 3rd are learning about Dia de los Muertos. This Mexican celebration includes traditional elements like skulls, marigolds, candles, photographs, and face painting. We will be creating Dia de los Muertos inspired cat skeleton paintings. 4th & 5th graders have been learning about folk artist Heather Galler. They have been creating their own colorful self portraits based on her unique style.

November-Please continue to remind your child to wear athletic shoes everyday.
SHOE CAPTAINS NEEDED! Is your child a shoe captain? Your child is a shoe captain only if he/she can tie and double knot shoes independently. This is a life skill, but unfortunately too many students are asking for assistance with this task. Please support us by working on this with your child.
STEAM
Enon Engineers have been learning about coding in grades K-5. All students have learned about an algorithm and practiced online or with a robot to see the algorithm in action. Students in grades 2-5 have completed engaging lessons using code.org and have used color codes to code an Ozobot. Students in K-1 continue to work on communication and collaboration skills. This month these skills were practiced with lessons about shapes, pumpkins, and architects.
As you already know, Mrs. Rice retired at the end of October. We have a long term substitute in the position through December and have hired Mrs. Monica Sheehan as our full time STEAM teacher beginning in January. Mrs. Sheehan has worked at Enon previous in grades 2/3.
