Superintendent's Report | watch
Abraham Lincoln School students presented information about a student-led Walk for Water Experience to raise awareness about the clean water crisis in Africa and also raise funds for building a water well in Africa. They had over 500 people attend the Walk for Water. They also held a number of other events and fundraisers to raise money to build a water well in Africa. Dr. Gordon and the Board members asked the students questions about the work they are doing to help in Africa. Dr. Gordon praised the students and presented them with inspirational words about their leadership at the school and their learning through this project. Dr. Gordon also thanked Principal Schwiekhofer for her leadership and giving students space to grow and learn.
Dr. Gordon introduced Hadley teacher Frank Tomaszkiewicz who celebrated fellow teacher Teresa Shea earning her National Board Certification. A video was presented highlighting Mrs. Shea and her work to complete this accomplishment.
Dr. Gordon asked Laurel O’Brien to give an update on the Special Education Strategic
Plan Committee. She shared the topics discussed at the last meeting and the process
moving forward into year three of the strategic plan.

District 41 Foundation Update
Community members Kathy Bayert and Kelley Kalinich presented an update about the
creation and launch of a foundation to support District 41. They explained that the
Foundation is a way to further engage the community and fund future needs outside of
the scope of the District. The official name of the Foundation is “D41 Kids Foundation.”
The Foundation’s first fundraising campaign included asking Glenbard West graduates to honor their favorite District 41 teacher with a gift in their honor.

- 2019-2020 Professional Development in Inclusionary Practices
Dr. McCluskey presented an overview of the planned professional development related
to inclusion. Board members asked questions and engaged in discussion around the
topic of inclusion and the expenses related to the proposed professional development.
