EMS Raider Student & Family News

July 25 - 29

A Message from Mrs. Venegas

Hello Raider Family!

It's almost time for us to start the 2022-2023 school year. This is a historic year for us as it is the first year in Eastwood Middle School history that we become a 6th through 8th grade campus. We are SO PROUD & EXCITED to become BIGGER, BETTER, and BOLDER this year. We know our new students, families, faculty, and staff bring their unique talents and selves to the table--and that is what makes us such a special place.

We had a great turnout at our orientation (Bridge Camp) this week where 476 Raiders came through our program. Our Parent Bridge Camp in the evenings was well attended where about 125 families spent some time with us learning all about EMS. The next opportunity for you and your Raider to come to EMS will be on Saturday, July 30th at 9:00 am. We will have a brief Title I Parent meeting and then you and your Raider can tour the campus and practice walking to and from their classes.

This newsletter format is how I communicate weekly with our Raider families. I ask that you get into the routine of expecting it on Saturdays or Sundays and make sure to read it thoroughly for updates and important information. I also include photos of what has happened on campus each week so that you can see the great things going on at EMS.

A few important notes about this week:

  • We will be having a full week of professional development with our faculty and staff. Our focus this week is making sure we are 100% ready for your Raider when school begins.

  • Make sure you have completed online registration and enrollment. Raiders whose registration has not been finalized and accepted will NOT be permitted to go to class on the first day.

  • Student schedules will be visible in the Home Access Center midweek. We are finalizing some details and will send a quick email and text blast to let you know when they're ready.

  • Students will receive a printed copy of their schedule on the first day of school. We will have lists for students to refer to and find out who their first period teacher is. They will report to their classroom and receive a printed copy there.

  • Please make sure you review the campus dress code prior to purchasing new school clothes and shoes. We want EVERY Raider to be in compliance with dress code from day one.

  • Begin having your Raider go to bed a little earlier each day and waking up earlier in the mornings as well. We want to make sure they are ready and rested for school.

  • Remember to attend our Title I Parent Meeting & Open House on Saturday, July 30th at 9:00 am. We will meet briefly and then you may tour the campus on your own and purchase uniforms.

I will send out another newsletter next weekend to prepare you for the first day of school. This will be an exciting year and we are so thankful for your partnership and support in making it a success.

Enrollment/Registration

Raiders will NOT be permitted to attend classes on August 1st if online registration and enrollment has not been completed and is accepted by our clerical staff. If you have not finalized yours, please do so this week to prevent any obstacles with your Raider attending school.

We have approximately 90% of our EMS families that have either completed their online enrollment and registration or are in the process of doing so. We have 241 families that have an in-process registration or have not yet started. If you have any questions, you can reach out to our clerical staff by calling 915-434-4300 from 7:45 am - 4:15 pm to assist you.
