K80-MSP Arduino Camera

by Alex Burgess

The Idea

I wanted to create a camera which could capture a very short moment, from 1 to 5 seconds, in a unique way. My camera uses Arduino to trigger the nine 35mm compact film cameras in a variety of ways, including:

  • Randomly shooting each camera, with a delay of half a second, five seconds or ten seconds between them
  • Shooting in patterns (the middle camera fires first, followed by a delay, and then the outer 'ring' of cameras, for example).
  • Firing all at the same time.

Completed Test Fire

The images

I hoped that by creating a bespoke camera, which changed the camera's original use to something different, I could create some unique images.

I experimented by taking portraits, as well as going on extremely short 'journeys', such as going under children's play equipment during the duration of image capturing.
