Soule Road School: Penguin Up!
Cold weather is here!
Now that the cold weather is officially here, please remember that we will be going outdoors for recess daily unless the temperature is 10 degrees or below. Be sure that your child wears the appropriate outerwear including hats and gloves. When there is snow on the ground, students will be allowed on the fields if they are wearing snow boots. (Students wearing fashion boots or UGGs will not be allowed on the snow.) Thank you for your attention!
Thank You, PTO!
Soule Road School is so appreciative of the PTO and parent volunteers for their ongoing support. Specifically, thank you for sponsoring the grade 5 visit from Star Lab, the mobile planetarium from the Springfield Science Museum, the grade 4 trip to the Connecticut Science Center, the Scholastic Book Fair, and for coordinating the Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe for students. Also, a big thank you for providing lots of fun craft supplies to add to the classroom holiday parties. Lastly, thank you to all the volunteers who will make this such a fun and festive time! We couldn't do it without you!
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
If children don’t show up for school regularly, they miss out on fundamental reading and math skills and the chance to build a habit of good attendance that will carry them into high school, college and the professional world. Missing just 2 days per month or 18 days per school year (10%) is considered chronic absenteeism. Chronic absenteeism, whether excused for illness/medical reasons or family vacations add up to lost time in the classroom. Poor attendance can leave students struggling both academically and behaviorally. It often results in less meaningful connections with peers and adults at school which are an important building block for academic success.
WHAT FAMILIES CAN DO
Talk about the importance of regular attendance and how your child feels about school.
Build regular routines for homework, bedtime and morning—Children thrive when they have a schedule. It is always best to prepare for school before bedtime rather than in the morning
Don’t permit missing school unless your child is truly sick. Use a thermometer to check their temperature. Fever is considered a temperature above 100.0 F. Your child must be fever free without the use of medicine for 24 hours before they can return to school. Remember, headaches and stomach aches may be signs of anxiety.
Avoid medical/dental appointments and extended trips when school is in session.
Every day is an important day.
