ROSE LANE PRINCIPAL LETTER...
Rose Lane Families,
The month of August has absolutely flown by but we are so excited for all of the wonderful things happening around our campus.
Classrooms are in full swing now and engaging instruction is evident in all grade levels.
For those of you who were not able to attend Curriculum Night, our 3 focus areas for this school year are Effective Tier 1 Instructional Practices, Teacher Collaboration in the form of Data Chats, and Parent Engagement.
Our last focus area relates directly to you, our families. Each month we are asking families to engage in a short activity with their child and post proof through a Google Form. This month's activity asks that you speak with your child about how they have SOARed at Rose Lane this year. We then ask that you post this response of their visual representation of this. The link to the activity is accessible through my recent post on DOJO.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to share with all of you that Rose Lane is currently projected to be an “A” school for our results during the 2022-2023 school year. We are so proud of all of the hard work of both our teachers and students that led to this result.
As we embark into the month of September I ask a few things of you. Please continue to place your child’s attendance and timeliness at school as a top priority. Even one day out of the classroom can affect your child. Next I ask that you find time each evening to ask your child about their day at school. This one simple question can help them reflect on their learning for that day. Finally, please follow our Instagram @madisonazroselane and encourage your friends and families to do so as well. We want to continue to grow our school and bring more families into our community so they can also have the opportunity to be a part of the amazing things that take place at Rose Lane. We also showcase the different activities and learning taking place at Rose Lane each week and want to share this with you.
Thank you so much for an amazing month of August and we cannot wait to SOAR into September with you!
Your Rose Lane Principal,
Mr. Reyes
NEWS FROM ROSE LANE'S ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL...
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Here at Rose Lane we will be incentivizing and encouraging good attendance during this month. Attendance is critical to success. One California study found that only 17 percent of students who were chronically absent in both kindergarten and first grade were reading proficiently in third grade, compared to 64 percent of those with good attendance. (Attendance Works, 2014) Please let us know if we can help you with attendance.

Notes from the Nurse
Hi. My name is Robin Carr and I am the nurse at Rose Lane. Now that we are settling in after our first few weeks of school, I would like to take this opportunity to share some important health-related information that will help your child to have a healthy, successful school year.
First, we have a very large campus with over 700 students in attendance. Please be aware that there is and always will be the potential for your child to be exposed to or experience a number of “typical” childhood illnesses and conditions including but not limited to: fever, the common cold, hand-foot- mouth disease, head lice, pinkeye, and strep throat.
I have provided links (below) where you can access pertinent information about each of the conditions that include signs/symptoms, treatment, and prevention. Please take a moment to review the material that will help to enable you to not only recognize these generally contagious conditions but also to follow up and provide or seek out appropriate care for your child.
Important Things to Know:
Hand washing is the single most important way to help stop the spread of germs (check out the hand washing links below);
Please send a water bottle with your child EVERY DAY to help prevent dehydration. Make sure it’s labeled with their name so it can be returned to them if it gets “misplaced”;
If your child has or is sent home from school due to a fever (a temp greater than 100 degrees), they must stay home and rest (be absent from school) for as long as it takes for their temperature to be “normal” (usually 98.6 oral) for a full 24-hour period without using fever-reducing products- NEVER SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL WITH A FEVER THAT YOU HAVE RECENTLY TREATED WITH A FEVER-REDUCING PRODUCT. Also, please don’t rely on the “hand-to-forehead” method when checking for a fever but, instead, use an oral digital “probe” thermometer or a forehead “scanner” for a more accurate assessment: You can get inexpensive oral thermometers from a dollar store, Wal Mart, Walgreens, etc.
If your child sees a Dr. (or other professional) for an illness or a scheduled appointment, please make every effort to provide a Dr. Note to Mrs. Maiorella (Mrs. Amy), the attendance secretary, to help ensure that your child’s attendance records are accurate;
If your child is diagnosed with a condition that requires prescription medication, it is recommended that they take the medication for a full 24-hour period before returning to school unless the doctor recommends something different;
Absences:
Please call Mrs. Maiorella (Mrs. Amy), our attendance secretary, at 602-664-7421 to report ALL absences: This is a “24/7” attendance line that allows you to leave an absence message if you place a call outside of school hours. Please listen to and follow the prompts when you leaving a message.
Medication at School:
If your child needs to take medicine at school for any reason, please do not send the medication to school with your child. You, the parent/guardian, should bring the medication/product to the health office in its original packaging (or in its labeled pharmacy container) and complete the appropriate medication administration form to ensure safe and appropriate use of the product/medication at school. Finally, if your child has asthma, severe food allergies, or another condition that requires a prescription medication to manage it and/or prevent a medical emergency you are strongly encouraged to bring the medication to the health office and sign a permission slip (and in the case of inhalers, EpiPens, and anti seizure meds, follow up with your child’s physician to obtain a signed emergency action plan) so immediate action can take place during school hours, if/when needed for an urgent/emergent health problem.

Welcome to a new school year!! We are so happy to see so many new kindergarten friends and so many returning students who all grew so much over summer! These first couple weeks can be so challenging with such large schedule transitions! Also, many children work really hard at containing their emotions and behaviors all day in class and may “fall apart” or have “meltdowns” or be overly emotional about things that do not seem significant once they are home. This ACTUALLY has a name and is a REAL thing! You are not “crazy” and neither is your child (apply a humorous tone to that one!). This is called “restraint collapse” and it is very normal. It often improves over time as we all get more adjusted to new schedules and expectations. Sometimes it continues longer than we would like. The best thing you can do is be prepared that restraint collapse may happen and regulate your own emotions so you can help your little one calm down and reset when they are able. Sometimes letting them get that emotion out, having time alone, having time being cuddled, or listening to a kid-friendly meditation together may be ways to help them calm down and reset. If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. You got this and you are NOT ALONE! It takes a village and your Rose Lane Counselor and Social Worker are happy to be part of yours!

A Family Letter from the Rocket Boosters
Greetings Rose Lane families.
Rose Lane Rocket Booster would like to welcome you to the 2023-24 school year. Rocket Boosters are your Parent Teach organization. We are a volunteer fundraising organization. We met on the first Monday of the month, as long as it’s a school day. We met at 4:30 in the library. If you are a parent or caregiver of a student at Rose Lane you are a member of the PTO.
Rocket Booster supports teachers and staff at Rose Lane. One of the first acts of support the Boosters did this school year was giving start up money. This is one of our proudest contributions. We also provided dinners to the teacher on drop by say hi night and a welcome back breakfast.
We also provide funds for noon duty aides. Providing funding for noon duty aides ensures teachers and staff have a lunch break. Noon duty aides supervise students in the cafeteria and keep recess safe and fun!
This school year will be volunteering and fundraising for parents and caregiving to contribute in the way that is best for each individual.
Spirit day is August 29th. Dress your students in their red rocket t-shirt. The class with the most participants will receive a celebration hosted by Rocket Boosters.
Hope to see you at our next meeting, September 11th 4:30 in the library.
With appreciation,
Rocket Boosters.
