Important Dates and Announcements

  • March 17, No School - Teacher Work Day
  • March 27-31 Spring Break

PRE-REGISTRATION IS OPEN FOR THE 2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR:

REFER A FRIEND!

It is said that “the early bird gets the worm.” That is certainly true when it comes to securing enrollment at RPA!

With March 1st passed RPA’s 1st enrollment lottery for the 2023-24 school year. Congratulation to the 63 families with new students joining our family next school year!

The next Lottery date is April 1st. Historically, those who pre-enroll by April 1st have been accepted for full enrollment. We anticipate that Pre-registration after April 1st is more likely to result in placement on the “waiting list.”

Kindergarten

We have started the new quarter with so much growth and enthusiasm! We have celebrated numerous leaps made in our last round of STAR testing! This is a huge accomplishment knowing we are halfway through the year. We are also celebrating Read Across America on March 2nd, where we will have all students drop what they are doing and we will be reading together as a school. Our Kinders are doing a SUPER job reading and spelling more words by the day. They are also moving into solving two digit equations! For helpful activities that can strengthen their skills make sure you are reading at least 15 minutes a day with your child, or have them practice reading signs and labels to you (Yes they know enough sounds now to be reading to you)! They can also count cheerios or blocks and group them so they can show you how they have been counting by 10’s. I hope our unexpected second winter break was a fabulous one for everyone and we are ready to come back and tackle this next month!

First Grade

We can't believe it is already March! We have been working extra hard in first grade. We are continuing to work on our reading fluency to prepare us for 2nd grade! In math we are working on measurement, 3-digit addition and subtraction, word problems and of course our number families! We are also dipping into our money counting skills. You can practice at home with real money, switching it up between counting by 1s, 5s, 10s and 25s! We are so excited to keep watching 1st graders grow and can't believe how much progress they have made already this year!

Second Grade

Hello families! Happy March, can't believe spring break is almost here! In class we have been working on multiplication in math, continuing with money and number families. Please make sure students continue to do their daily reading each night for homework. We hope students got refreshed from the snow days and are eager to learn for the rest of the school year :)

Third Grade

Now that Mr. Dykeman & Mrs. Kenworthy are in their own rooms once again, students are seamlessly adapting back to their normal routine! Reading skills are improving daily and they are all champions at math! We are learning a lot about identifying Nouns, Adjectives and Verbs. Please make sure your student is reading independently every day for about 20 minutes to boost their reading skills! Spring break is at the end of the month and we are going to get in as much learning as possible until then!

Fourth Grade

What a wonderful month. March. We finally made it halfway! But it seems like we are almost there. We will continue to learn about Main idea and supporting details during reading and continue to read amazing stories that the kids are loving. In math, 4th grade students will continue to work on story problems, long division and three digit multiplication problems. Please have your child practice those as they are probably the hardest math concept they will learn. We are excited to continue this year strong and are planning a field trip really soon. Let us know if you have any questions!

Fifth Grade

March marks the beginning of your student's final half year of elementary school. In a matter of a few months they will be off to middle school. As such we will be continuing the curriculum as planned with a special emphasis on polishing the writing and organizational skills that will be so important in the coming years. In science we are still studying natural phenomena (properties of matter, electricity, etc.) and will be doing some in-class experiments. Also, we have a field trip to explore career opportunities in the trades coming up.

Social Emotional Learning with Ms. Cortez

Hello RPA Families! During our Sources of Strength lessons we are learning about the BrainTree: brain steam, limbic system, and frontal lobe. When these parts of the brain work together it helps us grow strong bodies, minds, and relationships. We've also learned about the Regulation Railroad, a strategy to help us regulate our big emotions. Help our students continue to practice this skill by asking them "what is your body telling you right now?" when they are dealing with a big emotion. I look forward to exploring our amazing emotions and brains. Please reach out on Class Dojo if you have any questions! -Ms. Cortez
