Science
We are starting our next unit in science: Force, Motion and Energy! Students will need to be able to differentiate between forms of energy including: light, thermal, mechanical, sound, and electrical. Look around your home and identify items that use and give off these different types of energy.
Math
Your child will be using their knowledge of multiplication facts to multiply two 2-digit numbers, and multiply up to a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number. Students will be using area models, as well as the standard algorithm.
Reading
We are wrapping up our unit on exploring narrative texts. During this short week we will apply our knowledge of getting to know characters, setting, and theme to comprehension questions. We will meet with our 1st grade buddies for buddy reading on Friday for the early dismissal day. Feel free to let your child bring in their favorite picture books from home. Many of our 4th grade readers have really been enjoying the I survived series of books and I keep on hearing kids ask for more of them because they have already completed the series. I had our librarian and our instructional coach pull some websites with suggestions for similar types of books. Check them out!
Writing
Students enjoyed our publishing party on Friday. This week we will prepare to write a narrative piece when given a prompt. Our next unit will be on essays and we will focus on the structure of an essay.
Social Studies
In social studies we will be studying the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo, Alabama-Coushatta, and Kickapoo tribes.
