Second Grade Standards Mastery
May 26, 2020
Dear Parents,
First, on behalf of the Morris School District, I want to thank you so much for your partnership during the Virtual Learning period. Your help and support to your children while they are learning at home has been a key component to student success and we are grateful for your time and attention.
As the 2019-20 school year comes to an end, our administrative team would like to take a “snapshot” of where we are finishing the year academically so that we can determine where we should start the 2020-21 school year with regard to curriculum and instruction. One of the data points we know will help is to know where students are performing related to state standards that our district has identified as critical for the grade level.
The Standards Mastery Checkpoint will take place on the following days:
JUNE 2 and 3: ELA Standards Mastery Checkpoints
JUNE 9 and 10: Math Standards Mastery Checkpoints
On these days, immediately following the scheduled daily Google Meet with your child’s teacher they should sign into iReady as they normally would. The checkpoint can be taken on a chromebook, laptop, desktop, or iPad. It cannot be accessed on an android tablet or phone.
Each day, your child will see several questions that match one of the selected standards.
Please note that these Standards Mastery items should not take more than about 20 minutes to complete. Please make sure that if your child shows any level of frustration, you have them stop. If your child receives “extended time” through an IEP or 504, they can work for up to 40 minutes however after they have attempted the items, if there are any signs of frustration, please have them stop.
The results of the Standard Mastery Checkpoint will be used for us to evaluate the effectiveness of our online learning program and for us to plan for our start to the new school year. It is important to note that the data from Standards Mastery Checkpoint data will not be used to determine grades or placement in programs (ie, Quest). We will use results to organize instruction and differentiated learning support for all students.
If you need technical assistance on the dates listed above please visit the MSD Virtual Hub and click on “Enter a technology help ticket” and select “Standards Mastery.”
