Message from Supt. Gardner
Quarantine and Test-to-Stay/Shorten
The District's new program has helped many families avoid a long quarantine. We want to thank Mr. Bolin and his staff for managing the testing and our nurses for providing invaluable support. We want to thank the many families who have been in contact with us during the implementation of this program. There is more detailed information on our website that can be accessed by this link TEST TO STAY/SHORTEN.
Along with other districts across the state, the NSSD continues to press for our students to remain in school after an in-school exposure. We continue to see few cases result in our school settings with masks and spacing, and our new testing programs' results also confirm that.
Inclement Weather
With lower snow levels projected this week, the District asks all families to be aware of the possibility of delays or closures. Typically, the District has three options for snow days, depending on conditions. Our first option is to put buses on snow routes. We can also delay school start times by two hours. Finally, we may determine that conditions will not improve enough to allow safe transportation for our students and staff and cancel school for the day.
We know these delays and closures can place a burden on parents and caregivers and it is never a decision made lightly. It may be helpful to remember that even if the streets in Stayton look clear, the District's boundaries include areas that are around 1700 feet in elevation and when making a decision, access within the entire District must be considered. Here's a link to our District's snow routes. For closures and delays, you will receive a message between 5 and 5:30 a.m.
On behalf of the entire District, we want to thank all of the area families for your tireless work this fall. We hope for a continued decline in cases across Oregon, and with it decline in restrictions. Students, their families and staff have stoically labored through these months, and we cannot express our appreciation strongly enough. We wish you a restful holiday season full of joy and family.
Sincerely,
Andy Gardner
NSSD Superintendent
