October High School Happenings
Open House is October 10th - 7:00-8:30
NYSSMA Area All-State Band Members
Two of our Ruben A. Cirillo High School students have been chosen to participate in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Zone 2 Area All-State Festival. In order to be selected for the honors ensembles, students need to perform at a Spring NYSSMA solo festival. At the solo festival the students perform scales, a prepared piece and a sight-reading excerpt.
Our students’ scores were compared with students on like instruments located throughout our zone. We are in Zone 2 which contains the following 8 counties: Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Monroe, Livingston, Ontario, Seneca and Wayne. There were hundreds of applicants for each ensemble. The highest scoring students were selected for the Area All-State ensembles.
High School students selected include:
Erin Weill (12th grade - trumpet) - Sr. Area All-State Band (3rd time selected for area all-state band)
Emma Guthrie (10th grade - flute) - Sr. Area All-State Band (3rd time selected for area all-state band)
NOTE: We have only had a total of four students, including these two, selected to Area All-State Band for three or more years in their time at Gananda in the past 20+ years.
The Sr. Area All-State festival will take place at Letchworth High School the weekend of November 15th and 16th.
Congratulations to these talented, hard-working students!

Gananda's Student Organization of Mental Health Awareness (SOMHA) joined thousands of people who came together last weekend to walk in support of those who are struggling from the rising suicide rates.
A whopping combined total of $170,335 was raised by all of the walkers. Gananda's team has raised $920 out of their goal of $2000 so far. You can help them reach their goal by donating to the Gananda Team Page.
New Option to Report Student Absences
ID Required to Enter Gananda HS - please bring your driver's license when you come in!
Ruben A. Cirillo High School uses the same Raptor visitor management system that the Middle School used. The system provides an overall safer environment for our students and staff by enabling us to check visitors, contractors, and volunteers in the high school building. All visitors to Ruben A. Cirillo High School will need to present a valid ID to be scanned into the Raptor system. For our incoming Freshman parents and guardians, the Middle School system does not transfer over to the High School so you will need to provide your license the first time you enter the school. Once you have been scanned into the system you should not need to provide your license again.
