Newsworthy Notes

As our Mustangs return to school on Monday, August 17, 2020 things will look a little different, but the excitement, passion, and love for our Mustangs will be evident as each student returns to learn. Below you will find information about campus & classroom specific procedures for day 1 and beyond. Of course, if you have any questions feel free to reach out to us at CHS. #Wearecoronado

2020-2021 Student Schedules

We are working hard to finalize student schedules. We anticipate this will be complete by the end of the day on Friday, August 14, 2020. Student schedules will be printed and posted on the inside courtyard walls so students can see where they need to report 1st period. Schedules will also be printed and distributed to students during 1st period on the first day of school. We encourage students to take a picture of their schedule, or write it down, because we will not do a mass reprint.

Bus Transportation

  • The buses will run their normal routes this year
  • Student bus stops remain the same
  • CHS buses drop off near 31st street; students are expected to walk around to door 1 or 7 to gain entry to the building
  • If you have questions regarding bus transportation please call 806-219-0780

  • Students that have an ATC class will report to CHS on the first day of school.....DO NOT REPORT TO THE ATC on day 1
  • The ATC bus will pickup and drop off near 31st street in the bus lane; students are expected to walk around to door 1 to gain entry to the building

Student ID Badges

  • Student pictures will be taken on the first day of school in English class
  • Student ID badges will be printed ASAP and distributed to students through English class
  • Once ID badges are distributed it is expected that the ID badge be worn AT ALL TIMES
  • The 1st ID badge & lanyard is free of charge
  • Replacement ID badges cost $3 and may be obtained in the front office
  • A student may only have 1 outstanding ID badge charge at a time

Passing Periods & Hallway Traffic

  • Each passing period is 5 minutes
  • Most of our hallways are one-way and designated as such with signs that hang from the ceiling; if you see a "green light" you are going the correct direction, if you see a "stop sign" you are going the wrong direction
  • Some hallways support 2 way traffic and are separated by yellow tape on the floor, please stay to the right when walking
  • Always wear your mask and do not stop and congregate

Classroom Safety Procedures

  • Where possible, seating is spaced to allow for social distancing
  • Masks are to be worn at all times
  • Students are not allowed to share supplies
  • Students will wipe down both the table/desk top & seat with disinfectant spray before leaving the class
  • Hand sanitizer is available in all rooms and use is encouraged multiple times throughout the class period and day

  • If you do not have a Chromebook, or your Chromebook is damaged, please take advantage of our Chromebook distribution window on Friday, August 14 from 3:00 - 5:00 and again on Saturday, August 15 from 10:00 - 12:00 at CHS
  • You will need to bring your Chromebook & charger in order to exchange for a new Chromebook
  • Incoming freshman that have elected virtual learning this applies to you too; please bring the Chromebook & charger that was issued to you at your middle school and CHS will exchange it for a new Chromebook & charger

  • Mustangs are expected to bring their fully charged Chromebook to CHS every single day
  • If a student forgets their Chromebook one can be checked out in the CHS library between 8:00 and 9:12 AM and must be returned the same day between 3:02 and 4:15 PM
  • If a student does not have a Chromebook, or the Chromebook is damaged, CHS will provide a Chromebook during the first week of school
  • Incoming freshman will have their middle school issued Chromebook & charger exchanged for a new Chromebook & charger during the first week of school

Cell Phone Policy

  • Mustangs may use their cell phones before school, at lunch, and after school
  • Students may check messages, listen to music, etc. during passing periods as long as they are still able to respond to adult and safety directives
  • Mustangs are not allowed to use, or be on, cell phones during class
  • If a cell phone is seen or heard in class, the cell phone will be taken up
  • The teacher will turn the cell phone into the alpha attendance clerk in the front office
  • On the first occurrence, the student may get the phone from an assistant principal at the end of the instructional day at no charge (if the student was compliant and turned over the phone to the teacher without issue)
  • The second occurrence and beyond will result in the following: a $15 fee to the student if the student is picking up the phone, or no fee to the parent if the parent picks up the phone anytime during office hours (Monday - Thursday, 7:30 - 5:00 & Friday, 7:30 - 4:30)

  • Booting will start after labor day for student parking illegally on campus (no parking pass or parked in the wrong areas)

Cafeteria Procedures

  • CHS will have 2 lunches this year
  • Each lunch is 35 minutes in length
  • There is 20 minutes in between each lunch so staff can wipe down and sanitize all table tops, seating, and touch points
  • CHS has reduced the total number of tables in the cafeteria and reduced the number of chairs at each table
  • Students may also eat lunch outside in the courtyard
  • QR codes have been laminated and taped to each table; students are expected to scan the QR code and enter their name on the list - this allows us to track where all Mustangs sit at lunch
  • Students are expected to wear their mask while in the serving lines
  • Students may remove their mask while eating
  • Once a student finishes eating they are expected to put their mask back on

  • Students may wear their own mask as long as it complies with CHS & LISD dress code (no bandanna print, no images related to drugs/alcohol/or inappropriate messages, etc.)
  • CHS will provide students with at least 1 reusable cloth mask on the first day of school
  • CHS will provide students with a disposable mask when needed
  • Masks are to be worn at all times
  • Students who do not comply will be offered an opportunity to self-correct
  • Students who do not self-correct will be sent to the office and parent contact made
  • Students who do not self-correct after parent contact will be sent home to complete the instructional day through virtual learning and offered an opportunity to try again the next instructional day

  • When entering the building for your scheduled appointment, please check in using the visitor management system

  • A mask will be required at all times while on campus

Students Leaving Campus

If your student has to leave campus for any reason (doctor's apt., dentist apt., etc.) during the instructional day, CHS is asking the following:

  • Please use the visitor management system to sign your student out
  • As part of the visitor management system your temperature will be scanned in order to gain entry to the building
  • While on campus a mask is required at all times
  • Please send a note to school with your student for the absence (doctor's note, dentist note, etc.) so the absence can be coded correctly

  • The final bell rings at 4:00 PM
