Great Alternatives to AR
- Book Adventure is a fun, free way to motivate your students to read! Kids in grades K-8 can search for books, read them offline, come back to quiz on what they’ve read, and earn prizes for their reading success. Book Adventure is sponsored by Sylvan Learning and is a easy to use and set up.
- Reading Rewards is a free website developed as a way to reward kids for the amount of time they read. To get rewarded, students log in and record how many minutes they have read. Students than earn RR Miles which they can then redeem for rewards. The rewards are provided by the teachers and can include prizes from a treasure box, or extra computer time. To keep students motivated, they earn badges as they go through different reading levels.
- ReadnQuiz is a web-based reading accountability program similar to AR and RC. It includes over 32,000 quizzes, online quiz browser, randomized quizzes and lower costs.
Kahoot!
Kahoot! is a classroom response system which creates an engaging learning space, through a game-based digital pedagogy. Create and play quizzes, discussions or even surveys (which we call Kahoots) using any device with a web browser… including a laptop, iPad, iPhone, iPod, Android, Chromebook, Windows Phone or PC.
