Mrs. Woods' Classroom Updates
5th grade news and happenings
This week...
We spent a great amount of time in math this week practicing how to read and answer problem solving tasks in a way that shows our best thinking while making sure we follow all the directions. These skills are not just useful in math, but in reading in all content areas as well. Students are showing great growth in their abilities to choose the correct operation and complete multi-step problems.
In reading, we've really dug deep into non-fiction text and are gearing up to research our chosen topics to write another feature article. We're really getting into the read aloud book, When You Reach Me, by Rebecca Stead. In this book, we've learned all about a popular game show (Twenty Thousand Dollar Pyramid), reviewed point of view, practiced making inferences with text evidence, and identified good examples of descriptive "show, don't tell" writing.
Coming soon...
Next week, we will be viewing the growth and development video on Thursday. Friday is our school talent show. Be sure to make plans to attend and see several of our very own super talented fifth graders! Beginning April 22, all West Englewood third, fourth, and fifth graders will be taking the MAP test. This test can be difficult to make-up if your student is absent, so we ask that you make all appointments for this time during AFTER school hours. In addition, help your student get plenty of sleep and a great breakfast each day before school.
About Us
We are a very close knit group of energetic and enthusiastic fifth graders. We love to learn, laugh, talk, dance, and sing! Soon we'll be moving on to middle school, but we'll always be part of this family!
