Bill Of Rights
Constitution Gives Us Rights
Amendment 1: People's Civil Right
Freedom of Speech
The first amendment explains that the government cannot arrest or punish you for saying something against it. What the government can do is take down any information that was published that could be harmful to the United States. Back when the colonies were owned by England, the king could arrest you for speaking out against the government. Currently, the freedom of speech is allotted to everyone, but when what you say can put people in danger, then the local authorities or government can step in. I think that this law is both good and bad because it is good to allow people to express their opinions, but some people may say some things people say could be harmful and could result in negative things.
Freedom of Religion
The first amendment explains that the government cannot control who you worship to and/or your religion. Before the colonies existed they had laws saying that everyone had to be the king's religion and anyone else will be executed. The current use of this amendment is allowing people to have their own religion and being allowed to worship, who you want and making the United States a multi-religious country. i believe that this is one of the most important amendments because it gives everyone the right to believe in whatever they believe is right.
Freedom of Press
This means that the press are free to report or publish any story they want to. The government can however after publishing if the story is a threat to the US or could cause harm to any persons, the government can take down the story. Historically, The king or government could control whatever story the press wanted to publish and could keep the press from reporting certain stories. This is used to make sure the public knows the truth. I believe that this law is very productive because it makes sure that the government cannot hide things from the public.
Freedom to Assemble
The government allows the people to assemble peacefully without its consent. The king did not allow the colonists to assemble without his consent for fear of an uprising. Today, people all over the nation assemble to do everything from charities to clubs. I think that this can be both good and bad because some people may assemble to plan terrorist attacks, but at the same time many people use this freedom to help the less fortunate (charity work).
Right to Petition
The right to petition gives people the right to peacefully try and change the authorities minds about a decision by having a group of people come together and state what they want changed, these people must collect signatures from a lot of people and then present them to the authorities. In the colonial days, the people had no say in what went on and if they didn't agree they could not make any difference. Today, people use this right to help make their mark on the community. I think that this is one of the best rights that amendment 1 gives us because it gives people the chance to make a change in their community..
Amendment 2: Right To Bear Arms
Right To Bear Arms
This amendment is basically talking about how the army will not take away the commoners guns. During the Revolutionary War, the colonists were not allowed to have guns, only the army was. This prevented the colonists from rebelling because they had nothing to fight with. Currently, many people in America own guns for protection or for their enjoyment. Shooting ranges have become a second home to many Americans that took up the hobby of shooting. I believe that it is fine to allow the Americans to be armed, but to some extent. I do not agree with the people that have assault weapons with 100 bullet clips. I think that that is excessive and that it is dangerous and inappropriate.
