Brentwood Elementary Mission Statement
~Achievement~Actions~Attitudes~
Greetings Parents:
Body Safety Parent Program – Postponed - Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Body Safety Program and Parent & Community Presentation scheduled for Wednesday, November 11th at Van Buren has been cancelled. We apologize for the inconvenience. We are looking for an alternate provider for our Body Safety Program.
ISTEP+ Parent Letters – Earlier this week, you received a letter with an “invitation code” on it to view your child’s ISTEP scores. At this time, the schools do not have access to these scores, so you will have to follow the directions to learn your child’s ISTEP results. Please make special note of the section in this letter that discusses submitting a student’s test for rescoring. Your child may be VERY close to passing in one or more areas tested or may even be very close to a Pass+ score. As a parent, you have the opportunity to request that your child’s answers be reviewed. It may not make any difference, but there have been students’ test scores that have changed by more than fifteen points after a rescore, and for some it made the difference between passing and failing! Please consider submitting your child’s applied skills test for rescoring if your child is within fifteen points of Pass or Pass+. Scores cannot be lowered in this rescoring process, so there is no risk in making the request. One thing to note, though, the rescore window is very short. You must request the rescore between Nov. 9 and 13th if you are going to do so. So, if your child is in that group of being very close to the next level of scores, make a note right now to come back to this task next week! Please note that, as a school, we cannot complete this rescore request for you. While scores are not always changed, sometimes they are, so it is definitely worth considering!

Walmart Says Thank You to Brentwood Teachers
Most of us can remember a teacher who helped us learn, change, and grow. Chances are if you have a student who attends Brentwood THEY can tell you a teacher that has done that for them already TOO!
Every teacher received a $50 Walmart Gift Card courtesy of Walmart this morning in recognition of their dedication and hard work to help our Plainfield youth learn and grow. When the Walmart associates asked the students in every classroom "Who is the best teacher?" they all responded excitedly with their teacher's names! First grade teacher, Mrs. Boyer responded back to them: "And who am I going to spend this $50 on?" To which they squealed, "US!"
Thank you Walmart for putting our amazing teachers in the spotlight with this wonderful surprise for them!
YOU ARE!!!
Students of the Week ~ Friday, Nov. 6, 2015
Staff MVP of the Week ~ Mrs. Hannah Mayo, 1st Grade Teacher
Mrs. Mayo lives in Plainfield with her husband, who is an air traffic controller for the National Guard and is currently working as an independent insurance agent. She has 2 step daughters: Haleigh, second grader, and Heidi, kindergartener. They attend Bethesda in Brownsburg. The Mayos also have a dog named Rocky.
Some of Mrs. Mayo's Faves:
Color ~ Purple
Movie ~ Princess Bride
TV Show ~ Criminal Minds
Book ~ The Very Hungry Caterpillar or John Grisham books
Music ~ "I listen to anything!"
Flower ~ Orchid
Restaurant ~ Red Lobster
Candy ~ Gummies or Reese's Cups
When she isn't working at Brentwood, Mrs. Mayo stays active with running, scuba diving, and rock climbing. She also likes to make cards. Interesting fact: She traveled to China in college and performed with the marching band on the Great Wall.
What is a teacher / student moment you remember fondly? "One of my favorite things is watching my students build confidence over the year. The biggest way I see this is when they are the Star Student. They get to bring in their favorite picture book to read to the class. At the beginning of the year, they are pretty timid about doing this, but that doesn't last very long when they see they can actually do it! They have the biggest smiles and LOVE to read to the class!"
As a first grade teacher, what advice do you have for parents on how they can be involved in their child’s education? "My advice to parents is to read with your child every night. Take turns reading to your child and having them read to you. It will help build their confidence as readers, get reading practice in, and build great memories for them!"
Fellow 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Krissy Sullivan, says "Hannah is a joy to work with. She always has great ideas to share with our team! Her passion & energy for teaching are contagious! I'm so blessed & lucky to get to work with her each & every day!"
Colleague and friend, Mrs. Christian says the following about Mrs. Mayo, "Hannah is a hardworking, fun-loving teacher who ensures her students are well-rounded individuals. She not only teaches the academics, but about manners and respect that is so missing in our society today. Hannah is the best storyteller!!! Her many character voices and expressive reading captivates the students attention, and there is no better music then when they burst into laughter as the stories come alive! I truly respect Hannah as a teacher and am blessed to also call her my friend!"

Parents: Speak Up - your ideas are important to us!
Open October 1st – December 18th, 2015
Be a part of the conversation! The Plainfield Community School Corporation is participating in the Speak Up national research project. Speak Up is the first survey designed to help parents share their ideas directly with schools and national policymakers.
As key stakeholders, Speak Up provides parents with a mechanism for expressing their views to the administrators at their child(ren)’s school and district about key issues impacting their child(ren)'s education. Since 2003, Speak Up has collected and shared the views of nearly 4 million students, teachers, and parents from all 50 states.
By participating in Speak Up, parents are expressing their views to an audience of local, state, and national policy makers as well as the business community, and contributing to the national dialogue about science, technology, and preparing students for the 21st century workforce.
The online survey is open to students, educators and parents; it’s quick and easy to get involved. To take the survey visit: http://www.bit.ly/SU15survey and click the blue “parents enter here” button!
The PCSC administrators appreciate your support in many ways; participating in this survey is just another way we can partner together to strengthen our schools and to improve the future for our children.

Transportation Arrival & Dismissal Info
All car riders arriving in the morning should be dropped off in our car rider lane NOT in our Visitor Parking lot. This ensures they are not crossing over any traffic.
Late Arrivals:
If you child is being dropped off late an adult must come into the office and sign them in.
Student Arrivals (bus riders):
If your child rides the bus to school and will be eating breakfast in the cafeteria please talk to them about going straight to the cafeteria to get their breakfast. This will give them the most time to eat as healthy of a breakfast as possible.Dismissal Changes:
- If you need to change your child's dismissal instructions the best way to do this is to send a signed note to your child's teacher.
- If this is impossible please call the office NO LATER THAN 2:30 p.m. to ensure the dismissal change gets to your child's teacher in a timely matter.
Transportation:
If you are permanently changing how your child goes home or if you move please notify our office at 317-839-4802, as well as Transportation at 317-838-3632, and submit a new Transportation Form to the office.
