October Newsletter
Safety
Dear Boomer Families:
Fall is in the air! Thank you all so much for your Thunder Store orders. We had so many people order spirit wear and are excited to see our students and families showing their Thunder Pride. The store closed on September 26 and delivery will be about 5-6 weeks. The gear will be given to your students once they arrive! We had a fun Spirit Week and look forward to many more activities that continue to be planned for our students and families. Movie Character Makeup Day will be on Tuesday, 10/5. See the newsletter for a calendar of all the upcoming events!
We wanted to reach out to our community again to send a reminder that when schools are in session, many children walk or ride their bicycles to and from school – many of them during the busiest time of the day when motorists are traveling to work or home after a tiring day. Please be especially careful when driving on neighborhood streets and around school zones. Always expect the unexpected. Please watch for children who are walking or are on bicycles, especially at intersections.
Also, please partner with us to remind students of safe behaviors while walking or riding their bikes to and from school. They should use crosswalks, make eye contact with motorists and check carefully before crossing. Students riding bikes should be riding with a helmet.
We have been working with the city to place more signs around the school and streets to help remind drivers that students are walking to and from school. You will notice more traffic signs up very soon.
Also, a brief reminder:
Don't forget, that if your child arrives after 9:05 am you will need to walk them to the door to get them signed in. They are marked tardy after 9:05 am so we need to make sure that they are accounted for upon arrival. Thanks for your help!
Attendance letters will be going out this week for any students who have three or more UNEXCUSED absences. This does not include quarantines. Please be on the lookout for any letters that are being sent. If you have doctor's notes for your child's absences they may be sent in with your student. Please review the Attendance Policy in our Student Handbook on Page 8.
With Thunder Pride!

This month we are talking about the social-emotional skill of Responsibility. We are using this definition at school:
Responsibility: to take action and understand how our choices affect others, ourselves, and the world.
Every day we make choices and take actions. Being responsible means we know how those choices impact all people and things involved! Sometimes we get to choose what we are responsible for, sometimes we earn new privileges through consistent and healthy choices, and sometimes we are responsible for things simply because we are a part of a community (and we all have to do our part!). We will spend time talking about what it means to be responsible for our classroom. We will practice self-control and develop helpful practices. We will think about people with a lot of Responsibility like Michael Jordan and Eleanor Roosevelt. Together, we can take Responsibility for a more kind, generous world!
